I tell everyone about my beer spot. I already see in the past year changes to sell more beer for a profit and less beer for glory. What's the fun if there is no competition?

There are a couple shops BAs either didnt know about or didnt go to. I have found some pretty crazy stuff. Shopping around definitely has its benefits in that city.

I recently found a bottle store in the town where I work (in New York, I live in PA, where we do have crazy-ass stupid and archaic beer laws) and I'm very impressed with their selection, they have stuff I didn't think I could get in Redneckville - e.g. Old Rasputin... I'm sharing the news with my craft beer enthusiast friends - all one or two of them - can't keep this secret to myself!

I told everyone here. That's probably why I got the BCBS shaft this year.

I always shop around all the liquor stores where ever I find my self. You never know what could be a vintage find that they had sitting in there cooler for a minute or mis-priced a big beer. Keep your eye open!

~nice try! I was about to give it away .....my has been changing, once folks know about it I usually find another.....
The best spot I had was on the south side, there was a time when KH sat there for multiple days.....Stopped going as often, folks from Bridgeport found out about the place:slight_frown:

I go to one shop once and awhile where I have crazy finds. Ihey are not known as a beer spot, kind of a can of whoop ass joint, but the owner buys so good stuff by accident anyway and doesn't even put them out because he has no room. All of a sudden I find a Rasputin next to the Bud Light that has been aging away in back for a year and a half.

Um, tell me about Avery returning to NM. Good news.

I was told by a couple of different sources that Avery would be returning to NM by the end of the year. We will be getting their regular line up, such as Out of Bounds, White Rascal etc. As far as I can tell this has not happened yet, but this is what the stores are being told.

Got a shop in the OC that has pliny for days, as well as other RR beers.

I use the equivalent technique of of "secret" stash at a ski area where I can show you where it is, but I'm not going to tell you. For beer stores and bars that aren't widely known that have good craft beer, I will tell you in person where it is, but I'm not going to blab it here or elsewhere on the internet. Starting to get that way with good restaurants too.

One of the stores I go to is a corporate chain, but it's in an area that does less business than most. As such, when/if they get limited releases, I can often get them a week or more after release. The location is available on the internet and on the website's "locate a store" function, so it's no big secret, but I'm still not telling people where it is.

Is this the place in the OC that had several empty Russian River cases stacked and strung with christmas lights as a display in their front window last week? Just wondering if we go to the same place.

I have a place that, while it's not a secret, 1.)thier big money is in the wine and liquor and they are known for that. 2.)They don't really take advantage of social media like many other places. 3.)It's not in a main area and a little bit of pain to get at. This leaves a good to great selection of beer to pick over while the place still does very well.

I try to tell folks about my spot, if only because I'm sort of afraid that they are going to go under if their business doesn't pick up. I love having a shop that seems to always have solid and hard-to-find offerings (BCBCS sitting on the shelf for a week, for example), but I also want the shop to be there, period.

I don't have a secret spot. There's a lot of "hot" releases that I never sniff, or just get 1-2 bottles of instead of what I want. But I will tell you my "secret", any time I'm going out of my normal route for any reason, I track down a bottle shop and stop in. Basically by shopping in area's other than where I live every few months, I get that extra bottle or at least something my regular spots don't stock/can't keep in stock. This is strictly non whales, but it does get the variety and occasionally i stumble on something spectacular.

Yeah it's definitely hard to strike a balance. The internet is a great thing, but the term "hidden gem" will soon cease to exist (not just talking about beer here).

I couldn't imagine knowing a place that gets great beer and not telling others.

I learned a lesson about sharing in pre-school and I guess I took it more seriously than others....
