I recently received a bottle of Wee Jack from an LIF, and was really excited to try it. Unfortunately I found it to be a mess, plus I detected some really off putting diacetyl flavors in it.

You get over it, if you don't believe me then that's your problem and theirs. Get a life.

All this really means is that taste is subjective. I see some listed here that I love that others did not; some I did not care for but others did. No right or wrong answers on this test.

Boulevard BBQ. I dont think I realized it was brewed with cherries until I tasted it

Given the extent to which this brew is revered around here I wanted to get through all four cans I had and give it every possible shot before I joined this thread, but here I am - Heady Topper. I drank two from the can because that's what the brewer said to do, and two from a glass because I'm a grown-up and floaties don't bother me. I drank it slower and faster, a little colder and a little warmer. I do respect the level of craft on display here, and the skill with which The Alchemist was able to concoct a complex arena of hop flavors without just slamming you with bitterness (the easy way out). But when push comes to shove, in my long life I've put down approximately a metric ocean liner's worth of beer and maybe a quart of grapefruit juice, and there's a reason for that - and HT was just a little too close to the second without the malt presence of the first to back it up for my tastes. Mostly it reminded me of Deviant Dale's, which is far easier to come by (although not really much cheaper). I enjoyed trying it and don't at all regret the out-of-state price I paid to do so, but I'll leave the rest for you guys. A very good beer, but from the talk I was expecting Godhead in a can and for me it fell rather short.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting much because of the QC problems at CCB that have affected some of my purchases. However this beer was tremendous, just the right amount of carbonation, no off flavors whatsoever, just a huge, rich, fudgy RIS, as good as any I've had.

I was in a joke of a liquor store the other day and saw a bottle of 120 for 24.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Lollers.

Third post in a row here? Sorry. Anyhoo was thinking about this one and I will try to answer the original question...what did I have high expectations for but got a very big disappointment? Going off my rdev's:

Gale's Old Ale: thought it would be delicious and complex after 12 or 13 years in the bottle but it was just terrible.
Brooklyn Mary's Maple Porter- not very good, not much maple flavor, just blah.
Bayerischer Berliner Weisse- because I love the style and this was lousy
Cuvee de Tomme - was wary because of the reviews and LA's rep in general but thought it would be good anyway. nope.
Pretty Things Jack D'or- Bland and boring.
Smutty Finest Kind - I've had this a few times and found it to be lacking. Will probably try again, we'll see. Smuttynose in general has yet to impress me.
Victory Prima Pils and Storm King - I don't like highly hopped stouts or pilseners, I guess.
White Oak Jai Alai - I don't like oak aged IPA's either.
Alpine O'Brien's IPA- I LOVE Alpine Nelson, Pure Hoppiness, Duet...this didn't rise to that level at all for me.
Sixpoint Resin - just not that good, and I like Sixpoint more than most around here.

I guess I could keep going but I won't, I've said enough! I try not to get caught up in hype, I read reviews and generally know what I'm getting before I buy, by nonetheless there are those bottles you are sure you'll like but then...not so much.

My biggest disappointment is trading something good for a bottle I don't like, or spending a lot on a bottle that doesn't do it for me.

You don't get many "likes" do you? Maybe it's because all your posts end with "get a ......."

I liked Bigfoot but didn't think I should take the time to find it. If it's there, I buy it.

For me the 2 most recent have been Surly Coffee Bender and Zombie Dust.

Coffee Bender was too malty/sugary for how thin it was and Zombie Dust was good but it wasn't balls awesome like everyone on BA says it is. I had a heady topper in the same sitting and thought that blew zombie dust out of the water.

Came into this thread just to post about PtE. yeah its an IPA but it isn't all that different from what Lagunitas had on tap just down the road. I plan on giving it a second go around this summer when I'm down in Cali but at this point in my drinking career and with the number of IPAs I've tried I just do not see this one tasting better a second time around. Its just an IPA.

I thought 120 was amazing both times I have tried it, I also liked 75min IPA found it here in Houston at Underbelly (Red and White was a big let down)
