How much was the shipping for a 24 box from Germany to the UK ? Maybe I should start sending out beer online as well, hahaha. I do live rather central anyways :grinning:

I ordered a case of Augustiner Lagerbier Hell @ 16:18hrs on Sunday 15 Dec, it arrived today at 14:49 hrs. I received an UPS tracking email some twenty minutes after I had placed my order, and I was able to track the UPS package online, all the way here.

Total Price including shipping @ €15.90 was €45.70
This became £38.59 on my CC , plus a £1.06 forex charge by my CC provider = Total price £39.65
    (= £1.652 per bottle).
The packaging was as per in seanyfo's photos.

I will certainly be using www.web-bier.de again. Their web site is easy to use, and has an English language option for non-German speakers. It took no time at all to set up an account.

My next order shall probably be for a mixed case, I just happen to like Augustiner!

Out of interest, what's the date on it?

May 2014, not that it will see that!

A couple of months ago I found a couple of bottles of Spaten I'd forgotten about, the date was 2010, but I drank them, they tasted OK.

So they charged you 30 EUR for something one can buy for less than half of that in every supermarket (and they probably bought wholesale at under 8 EUR).

Dude- Now that you've hit up the big boys, go and order from biershop-bayern.de (order Pax Bräu's Vollbier for one of the sublimest beers out there.) or mein-biershop.de and support the little guys from Franken. :sunglasses: Their beer's better and really need your support. In fact, you can only get many of these beers in Germany if you don't live near their tiny towns/cities by ordering them online.

I also recommend hier-gibts-bier.de, which specializes in beer from Franken, though their site's in German only.

Does anyone know of a place that ships to the US?

I don't think any of these places ship to the USA because it's ILLEGAL to ship alcohol in most states in the USA, I think. Blame dumbass U.S. laws. I'm sure they'd ship to the USA if it were possible, but it isn't. On top of that, there's customer duties due the shipper/receiver. No in Europe, beer, wine, whatever with alcohol, isn't seen as any devil drink by any weirdo religious group, which is why we can order it from anywhere in the EU, also without custom duties. The only other way around it is what I did for a member of BA a few years ago. I ordered online in Germany, shipped to my home in FFM, and re-shipped to him in the USA as "collectable samples" in a trade for some beers in the USA. If that's what you're interested in doing, I'm up for it.

That also explains the trading insanity at BA. Why can't you order beer from CA or OR or MI directly from the brewery or from a distributor when you live in PA, NY or TX? Dumbass U.S. laws. So y'all have to trade and ship illegally.

FWIW, below is a list of states that Luekens Liquors will ship beer to:

“Currently, these are the states we can ship to AZ, CA, CO, CT, D.C., FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MD, MI, MO, NE, NC, NM, NY, NJ, OH, OR, SC, TN, VA, VT, WV, WA & WI. - See more at: http://www.luekensliquors.com/u.s.#sthash.rF6rT93b.dpuf

By my reckoning that is 30 states (including DC). That is a majority of states.

Maybe the German online stores do not find 30 states worthwhile?

    Cheers!

I think it's more... they don't want to deal with all the headache required to research which states are possible or impossible to ship to. They don't know or need to the hassle of worrying if laws change, so I guess it's easier to says, no sales to USA. Besides, there's customs duties/forms to deal with, which give them more work/headaches. Better to just say, "Dumbass laws. Leave it alone."

“Dumbass laws.” IMHO, the number of ‘smart’ laws are few and far in between.

Frank "Hardcore" Wetzel used to ship to the U.S. through his site, Bierregion Franken. A cursory look seems to indicate he still might, if you send a personal e-mail query first. http://www.bierregion-franken.de/D/shop.html

EDIT: if anyone's interested, I'd be happy to send him an e-mail to get things rolling.

It's perfectly legal to order alcohol online from another country and ship it to Sweden, but you have to pay Swedish alcohol taxes on the alcohol bought, which negates the savings from ordering online if the tax agency finds out about it. But if you transport the alcohol yourself inside a car across the border you wont have to pay Swedish taxes, it all makes perfect sense :stuck_out_tongue:.

“But if you transport the alcohol yourself inside a car across the border you won’t have to pay Swedish taxes, it all makes perfect sense.” Sounds like Patrik is ‘suggesting’ that we skirt the laws. Sounds like he has been Americanized to me!

Some dumbass law stories. It is illegal to bring alcohol from neighboring states to Pennsylvania (they want you to purchase wine & spirits at the state owned stores). In the recent past (15-20 years ago) PA state police would actually travel to Delaware, New Jersey and take note of the license plate numbers of people from PA buying wine/liquor (they would radio this information to other police officers). As the car traveled back to PA another PA state police car would pull over the car and ask to see what is in the trunk. Any wine & liquor that was did not have PA labeling on them would be confiscated. A very good friend of mine had a boss that bought something like $600 worth of wine in NJ. He was pulled over in PA and they confiscated his wine; he was out 600 bucks!

    Yep, dumbass laws.

    Cheers!

P.S. The PA state police have stopped enforcing the laws about bring wine/spirits across state lines. I think the amount of negative publicity and PA constituent outrage made it an unpopular law to enforce. Now, if they would only pass the liquor law reforms that the legislature has been working on for years!

A few months ago they had something similar on their website, but directly addressing citizens of the US. You can always ask them.

I have a slightly different question. I am an American trying to source American beers online in Germany. They are going to be delivered to German colleagues so no international shipping is needed. Just want to find a good solid selection of American beers in Germany. Any ideas? Checked some of the sites above and they have great German selections but no American beers. Try desperately to show the Germans how us Americans make beer. Already have a box ready to be ordered for my UK colleagues from a site there.

    @RichFellows.

Bierkompass is the shop you want. The have lots of American craft beers. At first the specialized in Beligan varieties, but more and more I notice a lot of American craft beers, from 8 Wired (from NZ though), Green Flash, Hoppin Frog, Jester King, Port Brewing, Clown Shoes, to Pretty Things and Rogue. Hope that helps. Now, they ain't cheap at all, prices ranging from 6€ to 10+€ for a single bottle, either 0.3L to 0.6L. I've ordered from them before and they're quite reliable.
