How could they report you and prove that you were sending alcohol if their policy is to destroy the contents of these packages?

I had a box make it to PDX and then get sent back down to CA because the shipper had writing on it, that indicated it had alcohol in it. It just got sent back to the sender and he had to cover it up.

I have no idea, I think she may have just been ticked when I started saying they were yeast samples and was more saying that they could have done a lot more then just destroy the contents.

The box had no labels or anything. I actually used the box a couple times previously and had no problems with it and it was still in very good shape.

It sounds like coincidence, but here's a recent article on "black market" beer:

    http://www.businessinsider.com/craft-beer-black-market-2013-12

Yes, it briefly mentions trading. It wouldn't surprise me if they actually were taking a closer look at anything slightly suspicious.

Yup. Notice that it's an AP story, which was syndicated in nearly every news source! We need to have an effort to legalize trade shipping!

if you're a UPS driver and you have enough free time speculate what's inside random boxes on your route, you're not working nearly hard enough. You should report the driver for gross misuse of company time.

This stuff happens. It's one of the risks of trading beer. I lost a box of HF stuff about a week ago for exactly the same reason. Cry for 5 minutes, then move on. No sense in trying to bitch up a storm when what you are sending is illegal, especially if you try and lie your way out of it. A box of beer is not worth getting pooped on by antiquated laws.

I don't know if this makes any sense but I think leaving in a small town makes a little difference. My fedex/ups drivers are always the same 2 or 3 people. They have delivered countless packages to my house and we treat each other as small acquaintances. I've had boxes sent from friends and family back home in portugal where a bottle had broken and the box was wet and smelling of beer. The driver just apologized and told me to be careful handling the box because it seemed that a beer had broken in it . So I know that if a box makes it to the last stretch of the trip I will always receive it.

Just sent a bunch to myself in PA, where I'll be for the holidays. Some serious sloshing going on with those bottles! Threw in a couple boxes of mac and cheese, which seemed to do the trick. They made it to the local hub down there, hoping all goes well the rest of the way. Never come across sloshing they way those Bourbon Counties do, crazy!

Yea, no idea...Anyone have any insight to why BCBS slosh so much?

I've noticed they tend to have about an inch of air space in the top of the bottle, maybe that contributes to more sloshing. Granted, I'm referring to previous years as I don't have any 2013.

There's enough going on with this thread and this time of year to give anyone anxiety about shipping beer. Here's hoping beer karma is on your side!

To add to this, I just had a box out for delivery today. Turns out almost 6 hours into the drive, it was "damaged, handling per shipper instructions", immediately after that it says "unable to deliver - damaged package".

Damn straight there is! I'm a new trader & I've been pushing back shipments to me due to the weather in MI lately. Mon/Tue I have 6 boxes to send out so I'm currently looking for space age sound dampening technology boxes

Thinner or less filled or a combo of the two has to be the answer.

This the risk you take when you ship in the cold, and during the holiday season. The volume of packages shippers get this month puts a huge strain on shippers, and damaged packages are much more common. My friend was a part time package handler at UPS this time last year, and said some boxes where getting dropped 10 feet when the trailers are unloaded. They don't care because more and more packages keep coming and they need to keep up.

edit: And the drivers are all working long hours during this time of year so they don't care that much, they just want to get home at the end of the day.
