    Hello Asheville!

My wife and I are going to be in Asheville and the area visiting familyfor 10 days. We are looking for a place that has the coolest staff to go along with great beers and food. We recently befriended all of the cool "cats" at Hopcat in Grand Rapids and we have been there 3 times since April. Are there good downtown Asheville brewpubs that have an awesome staff to go with their great brews? Any people that we need to meet while we are in town? We will be in Asheville regularly so we would like to find a few go to spots where we will be welcomed.

Also, we will be bringing some beers from Chicago if people are interested in such things as well. Any requests? Thanks!

You're looking for brewpubs specifically (meaning food and beer)? If so, you absolutely have to check out Wicked Weed. Amazing beers in a beautiful space, and I enjoy their food, too (the Brussels sprouts are a must).

Asheville Pizza and Brewing is a great spot for, well, pizza and beer. Oysterhouse has a small menu at their new location in West Asheville. And Lexington Avenue Brewery (LAB) has a good location downtown with decent beers and food.

If it's brewpubs you seek, that's about it -- but of course Asheville is home to many other breweries, which you'll find are reviewed pretty thoroughly here on BA: http://beeradvocate.com/place/city/77

I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience with staff at any of the breweries in Asheville. I think you'll feel welcome at all!

I think the staff at Wicked Weed and Burial were pretty great on my visits (for brewpubs) and I can't help but mention that you need to visit Appalachian Vintners for a bottleshop/place to grab a pint (awesome staff).

Thanks so much for your recommendations! We are looking for breweries/brewpubs/bars that are cool We have been to Asheville twice in the last year or so and have visited some great spots (Wicked Weed, Green Man, Thirsty Monk, LAB, etc.) We were just looking for the best places, in the BA forum's opinion, that will want us to be a part of their atmosphere. Kind of a weird question, I know. Just looking for cool people that love beer while we are in town. We have an excellent base of knowledge of the beer scene plus some family that live in town. So just picking peoples brains. Thanks again. Can't wait to experience the beer culture that is Asheville again.

Wicked Weed is pretty awesome. The beer was by far the best my wife and I had during our trip in March. They have weekly release of the barrel aged beers which i would highly recommend. Wedge Brewery in West Asheville was pretty decent, had a very low key vibe with corn hole on the back patio.

Those were the only brewpubs we made it to, but bars such as Thirsty Monk, and Barley's Taproom were great spots.

    Have a great time.

If you feel like getting into the car, Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain is also a great spot.

I'm thinking I want to check out Pisgah while I'm there too, good to hear that one get a shout-out - coming from Florida, folks live in the area; gonna be there about a week starting tomorrow. I'd be in for a share or a meet-up thing. Can't imagine anyone WOULDN'T want some of the lovely offerings Chicago has abounding. ;-)

Yep. Hit this one real quick after my parents mentioned a nice German restaurant they like in Black Mountain. ("Black Mountain, eh? Huh, let's check it out. Say, I hear there's a brewery out here....") Got to try the Chocolatized Vortex II Russian Imperial Stout and hot damn was that a find. Then she managed to turn up a bomber for me (the list said sold out.) Great place.

If you end up going out to Black Mountain to visit Pisgah you should also check out Lookout. Really small, laid-back place. They don't serve food but you can bring in takeout from the surrounding restaurants.
