I won't have the opportunity to try it on tap, but personally, I have always thought that IPA's, DIPA's and hoppy imperial reds are always better on tap, than their respective bottles. It may just be personal preference, but I always try to taste most beers on tap and from the bottle, when possible, and I can't think of a single instance when I have liked a beer within these style more in the bottle. But a lot of the time the difference is almost negligible (Sucks comes to mind), so when tap is not available, you get the bottle.

Whether or not it is Julian's best is probably more determined by what style beer people enjoy. I am sure that I am going to love this, but as a dark beer drinker, it is going to be hard to beat something like System of a Stout.

I do agree, I almost always enjoy the above styles more on tap. I guess these claims that it's the best beer they've made raised my expectations quite a bit because I've had some outstanding beer from them. Even though I partook from the bottle, I thought the greatness would still carry over to some degree, but as it stands, I've had Melrose bottles that I enjoyed more.

Ive had it on tap and from bottle now twice. I still think it's one of their best, but the best ? Now that I think a bit more about the amazing amount of IPA/DIPA they have released this year I might have to pull back just a bit, Mind Melder still makes my mouth water just thinking of it. Nonetheless, these guys are hitting every pitch out of the park.

    Cheers,

I haven't had as many of Beachwood's IPAs/Hoppy beers as some of you as I don't live close by but I'm kind of at a loss as to why they are not considered in the conversation with Alpine, Boneyard, KRBC, RR when it comes to the great IPA makers on the West Coast.

Or maybe they are but it's just under the radar a bit.

I had this last night from a bottle I got at the WF in Pasadena (Arroyo). I thought it was great, but I still think one of the best IPAs to come out of Beachwood is Amalgamator. That's probably my favorite.

Oh, they are held in the same conversation as the others. With them winning so many GABF awards this last year as well as the small size brewery of the year, yeah... expect them to get a lot of attention.

I mean, it's already tough to find their beers in bottles when they get distributed, except still life, of course. But Udder Love, Thrillseeker, Melrose. All those went fast everywhere I shop.

For me, the DIPA hurdle this one would need to clear is Hop Ninja. And Hop Ninja on cask...fugetaboutit.

Luckily my friend grabbed me one of the last bottles at Seal Beach, but I'm hoping it's still on tap tomorrow night in Long Beach so I can see if there's anything to this tap vs bottle disparity you guys are talking about.

Whether it will be the best Julian has brewed doesn't interest me really, I've lost track of all the great IPAs he's brewed as he is continually blowing us away with new ones.

They need to bring back Citraholic, The Falconer and brew Hop Ninja more often.

BWSB just tapped a brand new keg this morning. First time having it today for lunch. It is very good. One of Julian's best? Maybe. He's brewed so many great ipa's it's hard to keep track. But before I stopped in to try it on draft today I had to drive out to Tustin WF's for 1 bottle. Was it worth it? . . . . .
Is it worth the ten per bottle?

I knew I should of stopped in yesterday while I was at BWSB. Oh well. I may do a drive by this morning. Maybe the elder will be in too. I thought it was a very good dipa. One of Julian's best? Maybe. Like I said before, he's made a lot of outstanding ipa/dipa's. Hop Ninja, Mind Melder, Amalgamator & Citraholic are just a few that comes to mind. Yes there is Thrillseeker and Melrose too. I've probably tried all 2 and half dozen or so ipa/dipa's. Most stand out. A few were okay. I think Seven is worthy for 3 or 4 bottles at ten each. I can drive south to Alpine and pick up bottles of Nelson and those other 2 bottles for half the price. Is the drive worth it? Yes. But thats me. I am very lucky to live 10 minutes from BWSB and 25 minutes from BWLB. I can swing by anytime and get a growler fill of some of the best ipa's on the west coast. Yes Beachwood BBQ & Brewing is one of California's finest. After all, look at all the awards its won in the past 2 years. But it's not the awards that we are drinking. It's all about the beer and it's taste. Thats whats going to bring the people back for more. I don't care how many awards are on the wall. I go there for the beer. . . . .and food too.

Now Tovarish is worth the sixteen when it comes out next week. I will pick up three bottles of that.

    Good question. Yes.
I wish they would go back to selling their goodies when they open at 1130am. I understand they want to have a release party when its busy time. Maybe do a limited bottle release at opening and hold the rest for 5pm or whenever. Most everybody is working or not when they open at 1130. So it's not like a big rush at the door. Nothing like when Alpine releases Bad Boy or Expo or some of the other goodies.
