Don't jump at the first offer you get. Be sure to squeeze as much as possible out of everyone you can.

Remember, you went through all the hard work of cellaring finding these bottles somewhere. You totally earned as much $$ as you can possibly score.

Just a friendly reminder, there is a strict "No Selling/Buying" policy on BA.

It's fine to ask "what these would be worth[?]", but the "need to get rid of them" will have to be satisfied elsewhere.

Thanks for your understanding & cooperation.
    Cheers,
    Brian

PS: those photos are terrific, thanks for sharing them

They are worth opening and drinking. They are beers not a f@#%ing 401K.

Looks like tuyoshi deleted the post with pics right after I commented on them, unfortunately...

One was of a dusty bottle with raised lettering "Westvleteren" and the other was what looked like the inside of an old wooden crate with dog-earred fragments of the label(s).

well youre right about not being a 401k. but at this point, they might be better off as collectables. who even knows what theyre like after decades of sitting around in who knows what conditions. he could literally piss away a small fortune by drinking one

    That's moronic.

Drink those bastards for science or trade them for something you prefer.

Oh wow, you really thought these bottles might be worth some big money...

If you had bottles worth, potentially, hundreds or thousands of dollars you think it would be MORONIC to sell them?

Now, I'm not saying I'd sell them myself, but the drinking/trading of them (or the purchasing of them) would all seem to rank much higher on the "moronic" scale than selling them.

And I'll add that I'm skeptical they're worth all that much, but admittedly my knowledge of the rare beer market isn't strong. I'm just saying in general the strong "moronic" response to people who might think hey, i'd rather have thousands of dollars than this one (or few) bottles of beer seems a bit... well... moronic.

While the selling of those beers wouldn't be moronic the hoarding of beers to not drink only to sell for profit years later as a "collectible" item does really fly in the face of beer advocacy which, given the name, is what I assume this site is all about. There are many commodities on the world that can be bought/sold/traded for profit by the general public but there are certain things (like beer, or concert tickets for example) that leave a bad taste in my mouth when people exploit them for this reason.

And I think it's largely a comaraderie thing for me. If you are into music or beer like I am and I can help you out I'm happy to do so, hook you up with a ticket to a sold out show or a rare beer and it feels good. I would never want to gouge someone or exploit someone else's love of beer or music for personal profit, but that's just me.
