Carrier Pigeons can be hard to come by and somewhat unreliable. So I would go with FedEx. From my experience they are the cheapest and most reliable. If using FedEx it is cheaper if you open up an on-line account and set up a pre-pay. Doesn't cost you a think to do this and I find it makes things easier (and of course cheaper). You enter all of the info on-line (your address, recipient's address) and it generated a label with a bar code. You print it, bring it to FedEx and they give you a pouch to put it in that gets attached to your box. Saves you filling in the info by hand at FedEx.

I've always used Canada post. Is Fedex really cheaper? Canada post has always seemed expensive...

    Cheaper? yes. faster? Most definitely!
Ontario to BC with Canada Post is almost 5-6 days. FedEx is 3 I think

FedEx is usually about a day quicker. Also, I have only ever had one outgoing package broken and it was Canada Post, so I won't use them again.

Make sure you register an account on line. That is where the cost really starts to come down.

I have used UPS, they were a little more expensive then Canada post, and a lot quicker. Fed Ex I found to be expensive...

I've heard this from a few people. I have a fedex account for my US shipping, but haven't used them up here because other people have said it costs the same or more. I may use them the next time I have to ship a growler in Canada since everyone seems to agree that they're faster.

I haven't had any issues sending with Canada post but have received two boxes with one or more broken bottles inside (all extras). I was still impressed that they still delivered the soggy boxes on both occasions rather than seize them because of the obvious contents. Not sure what fedex would have done, but losing either of those boxes would have been a BIG loss. ...I can almost picture those fedex guys sitting around in the back room, drinking my Fou Foune out of the bottle and commenting on how it must have gone bad

Delivering a soggy box is up to the individual person delivering your package. Some FedEx drivers will deliver soggy boxes, you'll also find stories of confiscated boxes by Canada Post. I have a good reputation with my FedEx delivery guy but not everyone can say that.

Bottom line is ship with who you want but everyone should be prepared for worst case scenario regardless.

Edit: Also remember, shipping alcohol through Canada Post is illegal. Through FedEx and UPS is just against their policy. Which is partly why FedEx and UPS are preferred over Canada Post.

    Hey,

First off, thank you for letting me participate in the CANBIF on such short notice.

To my target, sorry it took so long for me to respond. I just got back from the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego.

So here we go. Since I live in Montreal, we only have access to local beers and some imports (mainly from Europe). This having been said, any Canadian craft beers would be appreciated. We don't have access to craft beers from the USA neither so if you can include a few, that would be awesome!

I enjoy pretty much any style of beer. However I do fancy IPA's, Double IPA's, APA's, Stouts, Imperial Stouts, Saison's and anything barrel aged the most.

I am open in trying anything out.

    I'm jealous :stuck_out_tongue:

After the beer you have been drinking down in San Diego this past week, your tastebuds have been spoiled. I am happy to not have you as my target. lol

That should even everything out

I am going to try my best to get my target's box out this week so we can start moving from the hints to the hauls portion of this thread

I'm going to try to do the same. I'm gone for the weekend this weekend and will try to get my box out by Friday.

We also require phone numbers for our targets (at least for the Fedex form)
Edit: I'll just put mine in, never mind.

Lakeport? Really? Come on man! Don't give anyone a twisted idea like that! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hahahaha! I was there on business. If it's any consolation, I attended the show as an exhibitor on Thursday and Friday only. While I did enjoy many good beers, I didn't get a chance to participate in all the events

Just to name a few, the double IPA symposium beer from Karl Strauss was simply amazing. The hops were so fresh! The Lost Abbey beers were pretty darn good. The Double Dry Hopped Ruination IPA by Stone did kill my tastebuds :stuck_out_tongue: And what can I say about the beer bacon donut they were serving. Mmmm mmm mmm!

Oh F*** I'd give my left AND right nut for a bottle/growler of that!
And to be able to do this.

My box was mailed out today to keep the growler as fresh as possible. Hope it's enjoyed when it arrives less then 1000km away from me.

Just a note to anyone shipping into or through Alberta- There is a low forcast of 28F (-2C!) for mid-week, and it could possibly go lower. I'm holding off on my B.C. trade for another week because of this, might consider doing the same for any BIF-shipments.
