I've never had anything from this brewery for a variety of reasons but a barrel aged BSDA with brett added sounds atrocious. Let me know if I'm wrong.
I'm a fan of a few of their beers. Haven't tried it, $16 is a lot to pull the trigger, especially without having it on tap. When I talked to the distributor earlier this year, he said it came out really well.
I grabbed a bottle the other day. Agreed that it would've been nice to try before buying. But every last drop from barrel went to bottles.
Yeah, the brett plus whiskey in a dark ale just doesn't sound right. Glad they are experimenting with crazy barrel beers though! Well bump this when you try it and let us know how it is.
I do love the creative and cannot get on them for not trying. I think I will pick up a bottle but sit on it so the Brett can funk the beer a little
Supposedly the beer has been aging in the barrel with Brett for nearly two years already. I'm very glad to see breweries try some experiments, I'm just hoping that they won't put it out if it isn't up to standard. Some breweries see that as too big an investment to not sell.
Asgard Taproom in Fremont. Don't know if they have it at the brewery, think they do all their retail through Asgard.
Had a bottle of this tonight. We were told that the barrel aging was for three months and a year passed after that for bottle conditioning with the Brett. This is a unique brew such that comes out tart/sour forward and finishes with a slight barrel character. Mouthfeel is a bit light. Overall, I can see this being a somewhat polarizing brew. It's certainly different.
AFAIK Brett beers will always have a light mouthfeel because Brett will eat the long chain dextrins that make up the "thickness" aspect of the mouthfeel/body. Also Belgian Dark Strong ales generally have a medium body rather than a stout's thickness. Also Mouthfeel would be a great handle for BA...
