I'm going to be in Philly next week and wanted to check out a good six pack shop. Hoping to find some beers I can't get in my region.

Can anyone recommend a good six pack shop near downtown?
    Thanks everyone

Look up the foodery. They have a few locations. More of a bottle shop than a 6 pack shop but you will likes find something interesting. Just a warning, prices at high but selection is good. Beer heaven on Columbus blvd also usually has a great selection and is also expensive. You can thank the price of a takeout beer license in PA for the high prices in bottle shops.

I haven't been to the Foodery since some hipster douchebag cashier seemed annoyed by my 2 questions a few years ago. I had $150 to spend that day.

I'd recommend Monde Mart, they have a Facebook page and update new arrivals once per week. Prices are typical for Philly, but they seem to get just about everything that passes through Philly.

They posted The Abyss and FW 17th yesterday and I think from zooming in on the picture, they want $17 and $25 respectively. Fair pricing for Philly.

He asked for shops near downtown.
    I'm assuming he won't have a car.

Bottle Bar East on Frankford Ave in Fishtown. Not too far from downtown.

What kind of stuff are you looking for, anyway?

To catch up on some questions from everyone..

I will have a car, just planning to spend my time in downtown and don't intend to venture too far.
I currently live in PA just on the other side the state, so I am familiar with six pack pricing in cities so I don't think I will be too shocked by prices I may see in philly.

As for beers I am looking for...the only thing specifically is Russian River stuff if I can come across it. I've had damnation so hopefully something different with grace me.
I am open to suggestions as well of beers I should look out for that may be distributed only locally or if anyone knows of things in that area that I can't get out western PA.

Deschutes would be nice. Do they distribute in philly?

Yes they do. All of their core line up, plus the seasonal Red Chair NWPA. Abyss bottles just popped up in the city, but they will get snatched up quickly.

So says the guy from VA..... Even with a car it's a pain in the a$$ drive from Center City.

OP, Foodery @ 1710 Sansom. You can eat/drink and buy singles/6pks. Beer Heaven also a great selection, get pho at the place next door. Local 44 may be the best bet for selection of RR.

As of last night Bottle Bar East had Consecration as well as Damnation. Also had 4 or 5 of Deschutes' year round brews.

Russian River pops up periodically in The Foodery on 2nd St. too, but I don't go there often so I'm not sure what their stock looks like now.

Is Consecration the only RR sour currently on Philly shelves?

Good friends at The Bottle Shop have a great selection of six and mix to go as well as big bottles. Hawthornes on 11th and Fitzwater is also great too.

I told you my horror story from there? I went in to buy a bottle of Chocarrubica and it was infected and sent an email to them. After what seemed like an eternity I got a response and I went in to get a new bottle that the regional manager from B. United International brought in for me. Bottle was infected so either they gave me the same bottle or the new one as as well. Sadly I never returned nor will I when I can go to Wine Works instead. It was disappointing but you live and you learn..

Just because I live in VA now doesn't mean I didn't live in the Philadelphia area for 10+ yrs.....
