Good morning elves of English Pale Ales and snowmen of Sweet Stout! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your pints, flutes, and chalices today!

I'm pretty sure Santa might need an ark this week if he plans on stopping by Central OH. It feels like spring and with temperatures up into the 60's today, I'm tempted to break out a Maibock or a Pilsner and look for the Easter bunny, not Santa.

New Belgium has hit Central Ohio this week and the town is buzzing with all their offerings. I won't get too excited about Fat Tire but I am a big fan of Ranger and with those reasonably priced bombers, I'll probably have to seek that out. None of that is new to me so I digress.

Today is the day and this is the thread to share about your new beer. Please TRY a new beer and TELL us about it here. A good description starts things off but linked reviews help add to the NBS festivities. Please feel free to add pics or other media to help round out your virtual pint sharing with us. Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Good morning Matt and fellow NBSers. Today, I have many new beers to choose from, so we'll see what I come up with to share. It snowed and snowed and snowed all night long. I think we'll have about 7-8" when it is all over.

I see the sun starting to peek through now. I'll have to figure out a way to build a snowman with my girls even though the snow is not packing. I can always make a huge pile and sculpt one for them. Enough of my winter wonderland ramblings, let's get to the beer!

This morning I am enjoying a treat that was hand delivered to me all the way from NC. Terrapin Wake N Bake is a delicious coffee stout that is full of roasted coffee, chocolate, caramel, and marshmallows. I am really enjoying this one while admiring all the white snow. I look forward to all the new beers everyone has today. Make it a great NBS and cheers!

Rainy and grey Long Island today.
Temps in the too-warms, but at least its cool - feels like fall or spring, not winter.
Second to last week of the regular season.
    Walking Dead on vacation.
Recently finished American Horror Story Asylum.
Started watching Game of Thrones - only two episodes on a disc from Netflix!
Today's 11 years to the day since my first date with my wife  (*romance points*)

    Happy New Beer Sunday =)

The sky is overcast and I am opening my windows as it's 64 degrees right now in Ithaca NY. How strange. This is our last New Beer Sunday before the christmas holiday and I want to wish each of you a very happy holiday. This has a been a great thread. One I really look forward to each week. I enjoy the few moments we take to chit chat about our lives and I think that really adds something to it. Matt , you do a fabulous job of announcing it each week and thank you for being a gracious host.

Boy I could not sleep last night. I wrote a bad poem, I exercised and I drank a new beer right around midnight. Fuller's ESB. I liked it but I have to admit I was not expecting it to be so rich.

Did you ever get very silly late at night. Well this song is one of the silliest but has a 60's kind of groove. Heart of Watermelon? What was he thinking? Cheers everyone

    English pale ale elves, indeed!

Found this one on my latest excursion to the big city. It's fruity, sweet from some nice light malt and full of some of those good spicy English hops. It's a bit cloudy, possible from the bottle conditioning. It pushed up a nice head that is now stuck to my glass. The aroma is FANTASTIC! It smells like a good English ale -- that yeasty sweet fruity smell that reminds me of a Belgian dubbel.

All in all, a perfect new beer experience.

    Cheers!

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Balmy and dreary today as I do my share of our Christmas shopping. That means the liquor store and bottle shop. :-)

My shopping is done and the bottle shop has a bar so...

    New Bock Sunday

    Hello all!

I'm still trying new beers in my new state of Wisconsin! Snowy and cold here - damp and warm in my home state of New Jersey. (Going there tomorrow night for about a week and a half!)
I've had better brews from this brewery - New Glarus - including another bock (Uff-da). This was okay. I might have rated a bit more than I liked it, but it's ... well, it's okay - maybe a bit better than "okay" - but nothing great:

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/590/55418/?ba=jwc215

I have another Wisconsin beer lined up to try later - Lakefront IBA - I'll be back with my review of it.

Going to watch some football - I'll be back later!

    Cheers!

Holy hop monster! This Hop Drop N Roll is very good. Great use of all the hops: Citra, Amarillo, Centennial, Warrior, and Chinook. There is a nice sweetness to help balance out the bitterness. This can went down quickly!

Holy crap! Your bottle shop has Pannepot Reserva and JW Lees Calvados Cask Harvest Ale on tap??? That's incredible. Totally top-tier stuff. Do you know the years?

    New Winter Warmer Sunday

Spent the morning w/the 8yo daughter finishing her shopping for the siblings, and may finish the late afternoon with the boy, doing the same. In between, treated myself to a Jubelale (and some predictable Cowboys December choke-action... woo-hoo!).

Deschutes in PA... gotta give 'em props for knowing that Philly appreciates (and buys plenty of) great beer. This Jubelale is certainly one of them: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/2178/?ba=BeerImmediately

No vintage info on Pannepot unfortunately 2011 for Lees. The tap list was unusually good today, leftovers from an all but snowed out event last weekend. I had a hard time walking (driving) away from beer geek brunch weasel. Here is the tap list http://www.hungernthirst.com/

Cross-pollinating, what with WBAYDN and all…

This local hard-to-find item was thought to be a lost cause for me, as we were out of town for the Thanksgiving release… and the ATL market was nuts for this item, selling out in minutes everywhere it was released. But persistence and long-standing relationship with local shop paid off last week. I was in for the Cinn WnB release, which hadn't happened at this particular store yet, but they pointed my to the back of the shelf, where this bottle was hiding behind the stone line-up.

Now that I have it, I figured I may as well drink it. It looks great, and smells wonderful. The taste is reminiscent of root-beer or cream-soda with the vanilla added to the batch. And the original MooHoo is a great milk stout to begin with. But this beer seems to be lacking in the original thickness/mouthfeel. The carbonation is much livelier that the original. Not worth the hype and craze in finding, IMO, but glad I got to try it.

What the helle is goin' on here?

    *crickets*

    Krampus
    [IMG]
S'okay, the site says it's an Imperial pilsener - it tastes to me like a rustic pilsener meets a west coast IPA, as it has some body and chewiness to it.
Pilsener-esque hops and darker, mellower IPA-style hops. Malt body carried some caramel sweetness to complement the hearty grain character.
High abv completely hidden. Really enjoyed drinking this.
Krampus is an actual entity. I thought the name was made up, or perhaps some old Latin way of referencing menstrual cramps  (lol - red devil character on label) <-- vulgar

Turns out in traditional lore, Saint Nicholas gave presents to the boys and girls who were well-behaved during the year. Krampus was a virtually demonic figure that traveled with good ole' St. Nick, and punished the bad kids - he carried a bag of sticks around so he could beat the little shits with 'em - and that was the least of what he did. Kids'd be happy all they got was some lashes from the birch rod.

Lemmy vs. Krampus = Lemmy wins.

I liked Krampus quite a bit at our last local tasting. If you look up Krampus or Krampusnacht in central Europe, it's pretty fantastic. THOSE folks know how to celebrate the holidays: by having demons kidnap truant children!

Anywho, time to move on to my New (Bourbon Barrel Aged) Stout Sunday. This beauty comes courtesy of JayORear; it was an unexpected extra in our most recent trade, and puts me firmly behind in our current back-and-forth (don't worry; I'm plotting my alcoholic revenge).

2013 vintage. I have to say: I like BCBS more, but wow, is it close. This is an excellent beer, with basically every flavor you want in a bourbon barrel stout, and it's all extremely well balanced. The bourbon in a fresh bottle does come across just a smidgen harsh, which probably hurts it against BCBS.

    Review below:

This is drinking comfortable right now. The favors are full and toasted with hints of raspberries and soured cherries. The carbonation could be better but WTH it still sips nicely.

I feel this is very solid and enjoyable, but will only try once. This is a worthy BSDA.
