I came here to say Backwoods Bastard, Scotty Karate, and Claymore. All of which were duly covered by the pros.

I say that because I love robert the Bruce but I'm not a big fan of scotch ale, so clearly there is a difference.

Old Chub at $1.89 a can, you can't go wrong. When I give myself a treat, I'll go with Backwoods.

Alesmith WeeHeavy is amazing and I'm glad to have tried it. We don't get Alesmith down here in Louisiana. In addition to this I would say Bellhaven WeeHeavy just because it is a traditional European take on the style. I really like Scotch ales, it is one of my favorite varieties. This thread is helping bookmark a few incase I get my hands on them.

Edit - Oh, and how I could forget Old Chub, it's great and a really drinkable beer. I don't find it too robust but still really nice. It is a great introduction to the style. I even let people who aren't into craft and they loved it, it is a great one. Oh, and I tried Dirty Bastard in Austin last week, I don't remember much about other than I really like it.

It's draft-only, but Short's Bourbon Hammer Jack threw me for a loop when I had it this past November.

That BA Wee Heavy is 35 effing dollars/bomber! I've gotten to the point that I don't whine about pricing much because I know I pay for quality...but I saw this yesterday and got sticker shocked for the first time in a while!
But I will probably pick one up anyway....

If you haven't tried Belhaven Scottish Ale you should definitely give it a try. In my opinion it is the standard for Scottish Ales. On nitro tap it is unbelievable and the nitro can is fantastic. The bottle isgood but doesn't do the flavor justice.

Wow! I didn't know that! I was able to try it at a bottle share, and the bottle I brought was $6 for the pint. I guess I ripped that guy off.

    Alesmith is available in Wisconsin?

Scottish Ale and Scotch Ale are two different things. The first is simply beer brewed in Scotland which is where the Belhaven brewery is.It can be any style. Scotch Ale is a specific style , already noted as being the same as Burton Ale.
