I'm in the minority of people who genuinely liked Alpine Spring. Of all their core seasonals, I thought Alpine Spring was the highest quality of the four. It's also probably the one and only time we'll ever see a major craft brewer offer a Keller Bier as a core seasonal. I will really miss Alpine Spring. It was subtle, flavorful, and refreshing.

As for the new offerings, I wish the Boston Beer co. would have made the kölsch the new core seasonal instead of the white ale. Sam Adams has a very poor track record with white ales and wheat beers in general.

I wasn't clear and I meant for the new seasonal releases, most seem to have been Ales lately. But you're right and they still do brew a lot of Lagers.

I'm enjoying the Old Fezziwig http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/1881 from my SA Winter Sampler. Arguably the best brew in the set.

The sampler has undergone some changes over the years.

Gone is the Cranberry Lambic http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/1903 . I can't say I'm sorry for that, but it was the beer that brought me to BA, years ago, trying to decide what it was.

I do miss the Holiday Porter however. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/20564 It was very good. Neck and neck with the Old Fez'.

Any other thoughts on the SA Winter Sampler 2013?

I miss the Holiday Porter but I love the Chocolate Cherry Bock. I would buy 12 packs of this. Old Fez is a close second.

Nice to see all the love for Old Fezziwig in this thread. I don't understand why they refuse to sell this in 6 packs. All they would need is a limited run for about 2 months. I've inquired about it a few times, but only got the canned response that it's only available in the holiday mixed pack. Fezziwig and Holiday Porter were two beers I loved drinking in the winter back when I was just getting into good beer. I'd love to buy them individually, but I don't want to pay for 8-10 beers I don't want

I have yet to try the Chocolate Cherry Bock. Your post is encouraging.

Just swap the samuel adams lager for samuel adams ale! Everyone has had the samuel adams lager by now!
I never see the samuel adams ale out west.

I have the same theory and it extends to other brewers too. Won't dive to deep into it here but Sam Adams are consistently underrated along with a few others and then some brewers are consistently overrated.

One of the only reasons why I ever bought the Holiday Pack was for Fezzi. Maybe if they sold Fezzi in 6'ers they wouldn't be able to pawn off the rest of the beers included in the Holiday Pack.

Once I heard that they took out the Holiday Porter, I was hoping they might be releasing it in 6'ers but to no avail...

Sorry, but the chocolate cherry bock was disgusting and the entire home brew club agreed. Drain poor!

Cranberry Lambic was a great beer despite the reviews. It used to be available in a 6 pack. Now I have to pay $15.99 for Frambozen to get my holiday fruit brew fix.

That Cherry Chocolate Bock was delicious. Had one last night at my grandmoms house. Thank god my cousin bought the variety pack, since I forgot to bring anything. Old Fezz is as delicious as ever, and White Christmas was not bad at all, and I'm not even really a fan of Wits. The IPA was totally forgettable.

So.... they are making the Cold Snap the spring seasonal? Im really hoping that they will do a better job with it then the White Christmas... that beer is not a winter beer nor does it make my Christmas particularly merry... we don't need another mediocre witbier from them... how about another good well made pilsner like Noble?

they are all enjoyable, but if your looking for crazy good beer its not their. It is however, good for parties where you and a group of friends want to chill, watch something good on tv, and relax. good chilling beer to stalv off winter.

So far, you're really the only one who hates it. Artificial cherry flavor is what you get in bubble gum, "fruit drinks" and cough syrup. This wasn't one of those.
Coriander. Cilantro is the coriander greens and has some of the same aromatics, but really doesn't taste the same. You might actually be reacting to allspice, not coriander, but either one pales in comparison with the awful Long Trail Belgian White.
Not sick of it, but agree, in principle. There is no reason to stick it in everything.
I've always found it underwhelming in past years.
Haven't had it yet, but it sounds like it's understated, like most SA spice beers. I don't expect spice bombs from these guys.
Last year this was the only one I could drink with regularity other than the porter. They are really missing on the winter darks. Not the brewer's strength, I guess.

Ha ha I was right on sadly and in reading the description for Escape Route, all they did was just re-brand East-West Kolsch:

    East West Kölsh™

Light, fragrant, and refreshing, our interpretation of this classic German style is wonderfully bright and complex. Brewed with Alsatian hops for a lemony citrus note and Jasmine Sambac for a delicate and floral aroma and flavor.

They have brewed Cold Snap with Tettnang Tettnanger Noble hops from what I have read, which I typically do enjoy, so who knows, maybe this will end up being close enough to Alpine Spring for me to enjoy it. I should know soon, as I have read that it is already hitting some markets (and they are canning it too).
