Philly Folks: Bars near Temple U

    Hey, I am planning a birthday trip from central NJ to Philly to catch a basketball game at Temple in January. Monk's is not exactly in the right direction, but doesn't seem too far. The Memphis Taproom is also pretty close. Never been to either, and I don't know for sure what else is around. What are the best recommendations for where my wife and I should go after the game? We would prefer not to travel too far south or west to make the return trip easier.

    Alla Spina is one of our favorite bars in that area: http://www.allaspinaphilly.com/. Wife and I usually go there during happy hour. Outstanding food, albeit a bit pricy unless you're there during happy hour.

    The Belgian Cafe is pretty decent, but a little farther away. I'd make my way to the Fairmount area for Bishop's Collar and/or London Cafe otherwise. Whatever you do, I'd avoid walking around the Temple U area.

    Honestly though, if you're driving, go to Monk's. You can even take the subway from Temple to 15th & Market and walk to Monk's.

    You do realize that The Belgian Cafe is in Fairmount right? If you're telling the OP to go to Bishop's or London then why tell them that Belgian Cafe is too far away?

    Thanks for the input. Monk's doesn't seem like too far a trip. I think we just need to go there.

    Please re-read what I wrote. I mentioned Alla Spina first then The BC and that it's "a little farther away". Nothing about "too far away" (didn't think I had to specify relative to Alla Spina). I lived in the area for 5 years, still frequent it, and still own a condo there so I sorta realize where things are :wink:
