I didn't care for the show all that much. The word "gimmicky" has been used a lot on this thread, and I agree with that. Brewing beers on a train, turning beer into fog, etc. Also, the banter between the two hosts gets annoying.

Yeah I watched the first 3 episodes and at the end I thought to myself, "well there's 3 hours of my life I can't get back". Honestly IMO most of their beers and average at best and gimmicky overall. While I appreciate trying to push the envelope, there is a limit to where it actually pays off and makes sense.

i watched every episode because i ran out of shows to watch while finishing my evening brew... gimmicky is the best way to describe it. on a scale of 1-10 i give it a 3. IMO i dont think it will last, and if it does, the craft beer culture will have to deal with more douchbaggery then it already does.

I am surprised by all the negative reviews from BA on this. My wife and I DVR'ed them and watched them all when nothing else was on. It is not mind-blowing TV but we both very much enjoyed them all. Certainly better than House Hunters or whatever else HGTV type stuff we seem to end up on.

I agree it was certainly entertaining but going into it I figured it would be "gimmicky". I didn't go into watching it expecting to be blow away with insight on the brewing process or how to run a business or anything like that. I figured they would be attempting to making ridiculous beer and just goofing around because they are two goof balls to being with who brew ridiculous things. I don't know why people expected it to be mind blowing, beer educational television?

I found the show better than watching paint dry, grass grow, and most reality TV. Brewmasters was way better, these guys are just a tad too cheesy. I enjoyed the show, but I think it's just because I was watching it while surfing the net....in other words, it was some good background noise.

It's an entertaining show. People need to lighten up a bit. Anyone who scoffs at it needs to take it for what it is.

I thought the show an improvement over the past attempt at a beer tv show. It had a bit of the same tone and feeling as drinking made easy\three sheets, but more beer focused (obviously a positive), but the hosts where not as likable as Zane (tho yea, they are more knowledgeable than him on beer related matters). The heavy duty home-brewing equipment they use is fun to see on tv, and some of the episodes have some cool, if wholey unnecessary, brewing ingredients or techniques.

To be fair, I kinda wanted them to fail more. A lot of the ideas for beer on the show where terrible. I really wanted to see people say "no, this beer sucks. maybe trying to sour it with your boddies was not a good idea", and so on and so forth. Kinda gave the feeling like "we can do no wrong with the crazy beer ingredients". I'm sure that if they decided to make beer with beeswax and live bees added to it, they would have someone who liked it and that's all they would show.

idk, that really was my biggest problem with the whole show. they need to show that some ideas just do not work. Besides that, i do hope that it comes back for a 2ed run. Id like them to go to more cities and places.

Overall, I thought it was decent. I really liked seeing the beer culture in other parts of the country.

Well said! I do like how it is completely beer centered, but also like Zane's show for what it is too. They are a little more out there, while I think more people can relate to Zane better, making him more likeable. I do think you hit it on the head, they should show more people who think it didn't work, just to not make it look like it was the greatest beer ever, but I understand why they do that, I wouldn't want to show people who think my beer sucks.

    Great post!

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but brewdogs mentioned on twitter late January that the show will be back for a second season.

I personally enjoy the show , it's about craft beer , it's goofy yeah but it doesn't have Bruce Jenner or Honey BooBoo in it so it's alright by me

I've seen most episodes on the Esquire network. I wouldn't say it's mind blowing TV or anything, but I like the fact it's lighthearted (albeit a bit gimmicky) and focuses on craft beer. I'd watch it over most junk on TV.

Without going through this thread and checking if someone already said this but.... On Netflix Brew Masters with Sam Calagione was great. I think if they tried to do that again that it might work now that craft beer is exploding.

I loved that little series run. Really felt bad when they had to dump that batch of 120 Minute.

Isn't that more interesting than brewing a pilsner in a basement and not trying to turn others onto craft beer?
Imagine the ratings on that show.

I like both shows... wish both were getting a second season... I look forward to the second season of Brew Dogs.. I still haven't seen all of the episodes of the first season.
