You dog actually shit itself from the noise of a cork popping?

Yes. I wish I was kidding. I do have to mention that it's entirely possible that it could have been coincidental. That dog of mine, she's short-bus special.

I say man up, hold the bottle in one hand, the cork in the other, then twist and pull the cork until it comes out without ever letting go of it.

I say this goes for every 3F Oude Gueuze. I have had from 3 or 4 different dates and they all send the cork flying like a rocket into my ceiling.

Every Damnation 23 ( of batch 69 ) I have opened could have easily killed someone.

This is exactly what I thought of when I read the original post.

To the OP/general discussion: I was aware of the danger with this one when I opened the bottle so I tried to hold the cork down after untwisting the cage and I couldn't even get the cage off before it shot out even while I was holding onto it.

Literally just happened to me last night, same vintage and everything. Didn't even get the cage off. What a delicious beer though.

OP, I'm not sure of the dates on my bottles but I have both 375 and 750, which one was the guilty party.

Opened one of my 11/18/2010 bottles tonight and had the same experience (but the towel kept it from flying very far). The gueuze inside is fantastic. :sunglasses:

I've had bottles of Westmalle that have done that with a little nudge before. I just put a strong grip around cork to prevent it from going anywhere after a few of these incidents.

Funny, I had the complete opposite experience as this opening the latest batch of cuvee de tomme.

Who wants to invent the game "cork racing" -- contest of whose cork can fly highest/farthest

Same with a 2010 St. Bernardus Christmas. I have a really high ceiling in my house, so it's pure entertainment to aim all corks up there and see where they end up. The Christmas almost hit the ceiling again after the rebound off the coffee table.

It was incredibly difficult to uncork, almost as if it did not want to be opened.
