My bad, I read your post:
as if you had started another thread just after this current one for 2014 goals. Looks as though you were saying that this current thread is a follow up to the end of 2012, and goals for 2013, which is another achievement you are proud of.

Now, go start the 2014 goals one so I can post there too

    Fire, flood, but no pestilence.

Started brewing in 2013, with 8 all grain batches.

Was happy with most beers produced, and really happy to finally nail a decent IPA for my last brew of the year.

Joined a homebrew club and got some positive feedback.

Next year, will aim to try some different styles. Maybe even a lager! Thanks for all the help I received from the community, and hopefully I can give back a bit.

"we totally effed a beer up with pot smoking and bleach"

I was going to post, but I can't top that.

Nothing really to impressive, but last year I stated my goal for 2013 was to go all grain- which I've done!
Made my first yeast starter this year (and one for every brew since), as well as acquired a stir plate and new keg. Hope to start building/formulating my own recipes this year to come.

in 2013 I finally mad made it through my list of stuff to try making, and was focused much more heavily on the stuff I like. The beer improved with increased focus.
Decided to give NHC a shot. Got a bronze. Wish I had had more NHC entries while it was possible, but hindsight, blah, blah. I'll try to choose my favorite 3-6 this year, or whatever the end up giving us when the lottery shakes out.
My ciders and lagers improved the most. Hoping for similar improvement with melomel this year.

    cheers--

Brewed up 200 gallons of beer and used dry yeast for the first time. Looking forward to a new year of fresh Belgian ales!!

I actually found out that I posted in the 2013 goals post:

Kegging, check, actually have 6 of them now.

Lagers, check, did one at the very end of 2012, Dopplebock, took 1st, did a Pils (took 3rd), did a CAP and IPL.

Pump and Whirlpool, check, and even went back to bagging my hops so I could use it without clogging.

Solera project, nope, but I am beginning that soon, in an actual barrel with a buddy.

    Not bad.

Really? I've never heard that. I was going to do a batch that was 80 2row 20% crystal 60. Or 80 L. What are the unsatisfactory characteristics of too much crystal?

Cloyingly sweet beer with a high FG and unbalanced flavor. Stick a handful of 60 in your mouth and chew it up.

Now is this coming from a hop head? Because I am not all a hop head...
I'm quite a fan of Old Ales and some barleywines

I can handle my hops just fine, thank you. I prefer a balanced beer, and I think most of us would cut you off around 10% on crystals for many malt bills. It just depends on the style and what you're really trying to make. Hops tend to help balance beer sweetness. So, if you have a lot of crystal, you'll probably want to have a higher amount of hops than normal. If you want help with a recipe you're more than welcome to post it and get critiques. (Please start a new thread for that if you do).
