I know a lot of those places and it looks to be a reasonable assortment. No nod to Asheville is interesting.

Glad to see Mr. Beery's on that list, but I'm shocked that there wasn't anything from Asheville included. The Thirsty Monk definitely should be on there.

Interesting that a bar from one year can be left off the list the next year, even though nothing has changed about it to warrant not making the list.

Not sure how they missed the Meddlesome Moth in Dallas, but the other Dallas area choices look good to me.

Busy Bee has Freak of Nature on tap in case anyone is interested and can't get to Asheville.

How so? I know Ashville has a decent beer scene, but BA has reviews for only 10 craft beer bars.

I love Black Back, about as comfortable a place to sit and drink great beer as I've ever been in. Would be nice if a more varied food menu was around, probably knocks it down a few pegs, but Prohibition Pig hits the mark too.

I don't know anything about the place you are thinking of, of course, but they do say this at the beginning of the list:

"After six years of making this annual list, we had to rethink the definition of a top-notch beer bar. New ones are opening every second, and “good beer bar” no longer equals a zillion taps; there’s just more to it now. We needed to walk out of these places saying, “Now there’s a bar that really, really cares about your experience with beer.” etc. etc.

It's better than a decent beer scene. Thirsty Monk and Wicked Weed are as good as many on that list. As far as only 10 rankings for bars on BA, so what? Quantity isn't what Asheville is about. It's a small city with a big heart. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Cheers.

I haven't been, that's why I asked. Biggest fish in the small pond is usually still pretty small.

Honestly, just make an effort to visit the area at some point. You'll not regret it. But it is a hell of a trip from Burma!

But in fairness, this isn't a list of the best beer cities. Like you, though, I'm surprised they didn't include Thirsty Monk. They're one of the best in the state.

No Portland, Seattle, or Philadelphia type scene in Asheville for sure, but pound for pound one of those watering holes should rate somewhere. Still, it really doesn't matter in the least, does it? Cheers.

That's kinda like saying "Interesting that my teenage son is now taller than my wife, even though nothing has changed about her height to warrant a downgrade."

Surprised that Brouwers from Seattles, Green Dragon from Portland, and Brew and Brew in Austin is not on the list.

Happy to see Imperial taproom and Bottleshop from Portland on the list.

I am kind of surprised that Bazi beirbrasserie from Portland is on the list.

The others are mostly the usual suspects.
