XVI and XVII were both $19.99 in Rhode Island when I picked up the pair a few weeks back. I wouldn't pay $25 for it personally, but maybe I got a great deal. Sucaba 2013 was $16 in the same store, I got two of those.

Remember it showing up in November, possibly earlier. Now if only Andechs would start sending their stuff here...

Isn't Xantus also ~3x the price of FBS/FIS?

Weird, I enjoyed it and I'm usually quick to call out beers that are cloying. Then again, I split a bomber 3 ways, so that may have influenced things a bit.

Maybe, but those beers really are unbelievably good deals.

I recall preferring Very Angry Beast to Black Xantus. But I also recall thinking Xantus was great regardless. Of course it's a shelf turd up here in MA.

I wasn't aware Xantus is barrel aged (not mentioned on the bottle as it probably should be). Not to say FBS and FIS aren't great stouts in their own right. Xantus isn't nearly as hyped as the Founders mentioned either though.

Either way...I'm glad Xantus was brought up in this thread..I probably wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't.

So I was speaking with certain owner of a German restaurant here in town a few months ago and he was showing me his pictures of his recent visit to the monastery. Claimed he had talked the head monk into becoming the second retail establishment in the US (behind Brauhaus Schmitz) to carry their bier in the very near future. Haven't talked to him since about it, but don't have a reason to doubt him. If true, I would be a happy man.

They're already on the east coast as of ~7 months ago and it looks like the west coast as of ~3 months ago. But this is Texas, so who knows if we'll ever see it.

    $14.99 a bomber.

I was off in my comparison. My bad. I had just had the FIS and FBS...cracked open the Xantus and though it was much much better. I hadn't even heard of Xantus before it was mentioned here. But it is much more expensive, and it is barrel aged. Not a fair comparison at all.

Another MISTAKE by Big Box retailers and the little guys gets blamed for charging too much - Thank you guys - y'all are Awesome!

    Founders Imp Stout - cost = $9.35 - $13.99 retail = 30+ %

I picked up a pack of FIS today at HEB and the shelf said $9.75 but rang up as $11.99. They fixed it for me though.

I'm a little disappointed with FIS. IMO Tenfiddy is quite a bit better. Does FIS age well?
