I've never seen anyone make a distinction between the two. I always understood them as being exactly the same (with hardly anyone actually using the term Imperial IPA) which is why I was confused about the correction. I'd be curious to hear Victory's explanation because it doesn't really make any sense to use both terms.

Southern Tier has been doing that for a long time, with 2xIPA and Unearthly. It really means nothing, yet those breweries seem to list their stronger beer as the imperial. See Stone's 9%+ Enjoy By description "You have in your hands a devastatingly fresh double IPA", yet Lagunitas Maximus calls itself an imperial at 8.2%.
It's up to the brewer. Maybe some day there will be a distinction, but I'd rather just lose the "double"

I agree just call it imperial and eliminate any confusion.

Founders Centennial, All Day IPA is very floral and fruity, with not much malt. When it comes out Founders Double trouble is my go to. New England Brewing Galaxy Pale Ale is awesome! Bell's Hopslam, Sucks, Captain Lawrence Imperial IPA, Eastern, Higher and Double Standard beers from Peekskill are top shelf. Peekskill may be the best brewery in NY state right now, they are putting out a wide variety of awesome beers.

How about flying fish Exit 16. Maybe not the most citrus but really dry. Under rated brew.

Because they can. DIPA & IIPA are listed as the same style on this site.

You may like Southern Tier 2XIPA, it is on the strong side at about 8.5% but I find it to be more on the citrus side and not boozy at all despite it's high ABV (as opposed to UnEarthly, which is pine sap and boozy... not that that's a complaint, it's a good sipper and I partake occasionally).

From looking on SeekABrew, it looks like Hoppin' Frog distributes to NY. Their Gangster Frog IPA is a great citrus bomb, in my opinion. I second those who suggested Sculpin, but there's a lot of old Sculpin lingering on shelves east of the Mississippi, so check the date (It's now done in Julian format).

Elsewhere, Clown Shoes Galactica might fit the bill, too. Galaxy hops are kind of strange, and it seems peoples' palates interpret them in different ways. I taste them as citrusy and dry; others detect pine. Worth a shot, at least.

I need to Tall grass Ethos IPA. It's really dry, super citrusy and fantastic. The price is good too. I've seen it for $15 for two four packs of tall boys.

I find Racer 5 to be fairly malty, certainly maltier than many beers previously mentioned in this thread.
