On their website Founders is listed as a special release with Double Trouble and Curmudgeon. January - March are highlighted as months available. Can anyone tell me what having those months highlighted actually means?

I'm not sure if you think you answered my question. Imperial Stout is gone from my area and everyone says it won't be returning. If that's the case, how is it available for 3 months?

DCgolfpro did not say anything different and he knew all the info you listed. He said FIS is listed as January-March this year, in the special release category along with curmudgeons and Double trouble.

His only question was what does it mean when the availability of FIS is "listed" as January-March? Are they bottling FIS at multiple dates, January through March? Is founders shipping out FIS from January through March or is it just one or two initial shipments in January that THEORETICALLY might last till March in some markets/slow distributors...???

    EDIT: ^He beat me..
I had the same question. Do I really need to be chasing trucks for bottles this week? otherwise it will be gone in a few days.... Which does not really mean January-March availability ?
I asked this earlier in the thread...

Did they make significantly more this year?

My apologies, I thought you were referring to the release dates for the other two special releases. I do not have an answer to your original question, sorry.

Founders is doing multiple runs of Imperial Stout. Wholesalers should recieve shipments in Jan and Feb. this should help keep product out there into March. With all of there new capacity added, we should see a lot more of the specialty beers! (Imperial Stout, Curmudgeon, Double Trouble, TBD)

I think this year is even better than last year. I finished my last '12 about a month ago and I think i like the fresh '13 even more. Anyone else agree?

Strongly disagree. Perhaps better than a fresh 2012 maybe...

Just had my first one ever tonight, there's still a few cases near me so I picked up a single. I definitely prefer non-stout/porter styles over stouts and porters but I can appreciate a good dark beer so I was excited for this one. The first thing I noticed was an extreme astringent bitterness on the back of the throat that tasted like chemicals rather than coffee/hop bitterness, almost like nail polish remover. It faded a bit throughout the glass but was still present. Can anyone attest to what this is? Is it supposed to be there? I would say I have a high tolerance for astringent flavors in beers (I wasn't bothered by Devil Dancer, Molotov Cocktail) but this was hard to drink.

I think it's more "hoppy" this year. But try letting it warm a bit to get all the flavor out...still excellent!

I did a side by side of 2012 and 2013 last week with a friend - same glasses, same temp. Neither of us could tell the difference except that the 2013 had slightly more head. Taste was almost identical. Anyone that compares tastes based on something they had months ago is either the Rainman of beer tasting or full of BS.

Great beer. Just bought a case to sit on for the next couple years.

Bell's Expeditions bottled in July 13 already got 1/2 a year on them. The beer closet Gods are getting anxious.

I drank my last 12 last week and found it to be much sweeter than fresh. The chocolate flavor was much more pronounced and it reminded me a little bit of ST Choklat. Tastes great fresh and it is great with some age.

I find that really fresh Imperial stout has so much dark malts and hops that it has what I would describe as a chalkiness aspect. I have never found this in any other beer and I enjoy it immensely.
