I had to take a break from brewing due to my wife complaining about space in the fridge. Problem was solved by receiving a beer fridge over the holidays.

I've done that. This is now the new reason why I don't brew my own beer,. I'll likely give it a go someday, my wife doesn't know it will stink up the house yet.

well that's what I was getting at, if you take your wife you can show off the smell to her and that way she will have an idea for what she's..

    ahem...

    in for..

seriously though it's a good idea if you think this is an issue.

I don't think my brew would be as good as the stuff others produce, but that's not the thing keeping me from brewing.

It's more the time investment. I have a full time job and some other hobbies that occupy my time and money.

Ask in the homebrewing forum here (if you haven't already). There are easy solutions to some of those problems, such as a hose attachment for your faucet, and campden tablets to de-chlorinate the water. And some of the solutions that people come up with for space constraints are truly inspired.

As for lifting, you'd become an instant legend if you installed a pulley system in your house for moving carboys around :grinning:

Some homebrewers can be like that couple that just had their first baby and bugs their childless couple friends endlessly with "when are you going to have a baby?" You can love and enjoy life without making any, and you can love and enjoy beer without making any. I'm glad that it works for you and I understand that you want others to share in that joy, but for fuck's sake, try to enjoy what works for you nonevangelically.

I am a brewer, but haven't brewed in over a year for the same reason that many others have stated: Time. And partially money, but mostly time. The money would be spent on things that help cut down on brewing time: Pump(s), quick disconnects, etc., etc.

I think brewing makes you a better BA. I typically give more weight to the opinion of someone who brews over someone who doesn't. Just like I don't really take the opinion of any self ascribed "foodie" who doesn't know how to cook very seriously.

Too lazy. I do occasionally help a couple of buddies brew.

I brewed for years - in the home, and in the businesses setup for home-brewing. Was enjoyable, great learning experiences, but it is time consuming.

Right now "I'm satisfied drinking the stuff others produce." There is so much product available in my area, I can still try something new each week.

My wife commented that she thinks brewing at home would be a slippery slope to me becoming a fatassed alcoholic
I responded at the time that I've already fallen into that ditch.

I agree that brewing a 1 gallon batch is a good way to get into the hobby. You can buy a kit for $30-$40 and get into brewing using the stuff you already have in your kitchen. If you decided that you liked the hobby you could step up to 5 gallons and still use the gallon jug to make yeast starters. I live in an apartment and brew 1-2 gallon all grain batches. I don't have the space for all of that equipment or for the 50 or so beers from each batch. I keg my beer in a 1.75 gallon keg that fits in my fridge. It is cost efficient and convenient. I like brewing beer and wouldn't be able to brew as often as I do if I was brewing 5 or 10 gallons at a time. For those that are brewing 5 gallon batches saying that brewing small is a waste of time, why aren't you brewing 20 gallons at a time? We all have restrictions, but the fun part of homebrewing is working around those restrictions.

I voted other, and I'm thinking it's for the same reason as all the rest - haven't read the thread, but I'd bet most others are with me when I say that I hope to homebrew someday - I'm just not yet able. Someday I'll have the room/money/time. Just not in the cards this year.

I get why people enjoy drinking, but have no interest in brewing. I love ice cream, but I have no interest in making my own (I know, much much simpler, but still).

Right - it's a bit like asking non-musicians who love listening to music why they don't write their own music. I see brewing as an artform, and I can't imagine I'll change my mind about that when I finally get around to trying it out.

You're a fan of Monet? Why don't you paint?

After wanting to start brewing for a year or so I'm finally in a position to start, I'll be brewing my first batch this weekend, an all citra, partial grain (steeped) pale ale/ ipa. The only thing I don't have is a kitchen scale and an immersion wort chiller, otherwise I'm really excited to brew on Saturday. Tons of research and planning but I'm really hoping my first brew is good. Cheers!

Too lazy to start, and the intimidation factor. But one of these days I'd like to try.
