You might be right. BA has it listed as a Double/Imperial Pilsner, but Southern Tier lists it as a Imperial Helles. I'd go with ST's description.

For a local pils, Flywheel Bright Lager. Others I like are Piercing Pils and The Crisp. I do not like Prima Pils.

I agree but I really taste the pilsner malt in it.

I used to be a Prima Pils guy. Now I prefer Noble Pils. Just more sessionable and refreshing.

I have never had a craft Pilsner that was less than very good and most are excellent. (at least as a beer if not quite to style)

Chuckanut Pilsner. Just recently available in bottles. Multi GABF award winner.

I know the line between Helles and Pilsner is very blurred but there is a difference between the 2.

SA Noble Pils and Victory Prima Pils are about the only standard pilsners that have ever impressed me.

To really pique my interest, let’s focus on the imperial pils sub-category.

DFH My Antonia is my favorite

Great Lakes Silver & Gold and ST Krampus are solid runner-ups.

Actually, in quality as well. Compared to our good stuff. It's the tragedy of Amercan brewing.

You need to learn how to read my friend. I wrote that during communist times it was a LOT better and that what they sell now is but a sad shadow of it's former greatness. Were you in Czechia in the 80s ? Have you had it back in the 80s ? If "no" then you're really not in a position to comment, are you ?

Talk about smug attitude there... So, let me try this a 3rd time. Have you been over here and have you tried it back then ? Yes or no ?

My point was and is that regardless of how brilliant you may think PU is now, it was much better back then and apparently certain beer authorities who were quoted in reply to my original post agree with my (admittedly) subjective assessment. Compared to then it is crap now. To me. But since I'm not posting here as spokesman of an international organisation but just me, I did not think this required special pointing out. Thank you for relieving me of yet another illusion.

If you still like the beer (or your reference beers are even more crappy then comtemporary PU) then by all means, do be my guest and keep drinking it. I sincerely wish you all the enjoyment you can find there and I mean that completely free of snugness, irony or anything else even remotely resembling malice.

Nope. It's a bummer too because it'd be a brewery Rhode Island could be proud of (if of course the brewery they build is actually in Rhode Island).

That's the good thing ybout living in Central Europe... there are always some Czech pilseners nearby. On the other hand, I miss out on some great American beers. So, you win some, you lose some.

Was comparing to our bad stuff -- even your bad stuff is better than our* bad stuff!

*Hell, sometimes it's even better than our (perceived) good stuff! :grinning:

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic! I wasn't going to post, as pilsners are one of my least favorite styles! That being said, I never shut myself off to any style, as we all know your tastes change! Right now, pilsners bring me back to "bitter beer face" I would have as a young lad, asking my Dad for a sip of his beer! I did recently try DFH Piercing Pils, as I was intrigued by the pear! I did hear some great things about Kiwi Rising and would like to try!

They really need to open a facility of their own, if not in RI then at least somewhere in New England.
