YAY, FIS is here in Western Massachusetts, the fourpack I grabbed was $13, ...which is more than FBS, go figger.

As to SN Narwhal, I was underwhelmed myself, but have only had one. Just wondering how one would tell if it tasted like hot pee. I mean, without having had experience with pee tasting. Did someone do a side-by-side? Narwhal, and hot pee? And how would one know the taste difference between hot and cold pee? A side-by-side-by-side? Is that how one hones one's palate, by tasting pee at various temps before reviewing beer?

I was underwhelmed by it, honestly. Didn't even finish my glass. I love Ten Fidy, but Narwhal and FIS just didn't do it for me. I'll stick to FBS.

Wow no love for Bell's Expedition in any of these IS blind tastings?

Definitely widely varying tastes. Mine would be close to the mirror opposite as this list with Storm King on the bottom, and Ten Fiddy near the top we do agree about founders though.

That was my assumption too. I expected Ten Fidy to be top. BK Black Chocolate and Storm King in the bottom.
The results were a surprise. I generally fare better on blind tastings.

Hey, you never know until you put your palate up for a test. Try it out.

Unfortunately don't get that on NY. Saw it recently in Philly though.

I've gone back and forth between FIS and Expedition as to which one is my fave with Ten Fiddy a close third.

I have Storm King in the beer fridge waiting its turn, but otherwise I agree with the order of your group's list, although I might switch #s4&5, I did not think so much of the Brooklyn. Thanks for posting this, interesting!

    My(non-blind) list:
    1. Westbrook/Evil Twin colab: Mini-Growler
    2. Bell's Expedition stout
    3. Westbrook Captain Skoon's Stout
    4. Ten Fiddy
    5. Founders Breakfast Stout

I love all of these. So, even though FBS is last, it is still great! Also, I have Victory Storm King, but did not really enjoy it.

No problem. Glad I could post the results. Hope it helps people out with their choices or at least persuades people to have fun and do blind tests themselves.

I did a stout tasting with a group of friends last year. Most of them weren't too experienced with stouts. Interestingly enough, the majority disliked Ten Fidy (which I love) and voted Founders Imperial Stout as the top pick. Most of them also disliked Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti.

Compared with other imperial stouts I find Ten Fidy totally underwhelming. Despite the ABV it tastes more like a milk stout to me (my least favorite stout style) -- which could be a positive or a negative depending on who you ask. It's just a little too subtle for me. I greatly prefer FIS. Having said that, I greatly prefer FBS to FIS...

    Overwhelming but too subtle?

Of the imperials I've had this year, Founders imperial, breakfast, Bells expedition, Nectar Black Xantus, Ten Fidy, left hand wake up dead...the Black Xantus is my favorite...

Well no shit... I prefer KBS, blacknote, big bad baptist, bcbs, bcbcs, etc. etc. etc.... (the list goes on and on) to non barrel aged stouts.

I really really like this. I found it better than Ten Fidy and Expedition as well. Something about the overload of roasted bitterness balanced out by the thick sweetness.

If anybody has any rubeous left these two mix pretty nice! When rubeous came out I was mixing son of my FIS 12's with the rube. Great results at diff ratios.
