As if there wasn't enough going on Valentines Day weekend, Oakshire announced a barrel aged beer festival at the same time as they release Hellshire IV.

    http://www.newschoolbeer.com/2014/01/oakshire-brewing-hellshire-iv-barrel.html#more

From the article: "Entry fee to the festival will include a commemorative Teku tasting glass and sampling tokens, with more available for purchase. Breweries presently confirmed include those listed below, with more confirming daily.

National: Crooked Stave, Anchorage Brewing, Port Brewing/ The Lost Abbey, Pizza Port Carlsbad, 5050, Beachwood BBQ, Firestone Walker, Elliot Bay, Two Brothers Brewing, Haymarket Brewing, Half-Acre, Off Color Brewing, Pipeworks Brewing, Trinity Brewing, Perennial Artisan Ales, Cigar City Brewing, Three Floyd’s and Surly.

Oregon: Ninkasi, Block 15, Breakside, Flat Tail, Boneyard, Hopworks, Double Mountain, Logsdon, Cascade, The Commons, De Garde."

That's a lot of out-of-distro breweries for a relatively under the radar event.

Yeah, I know... unfortunately, the timing on this is not good for me. Will be back East for 72 hours of Belgium in Baltimore. Oh well, can't make them all...

Shame it's at the same time as the Festival of Dark Arts at Ft. George that I already have tickets for. Looks awesome though.

Considering that this is generally considered the off season for local beer events, it's amazing how much great stuff is going on right now. Just got the email from Belmont Station about their upcoming "bigger, badder, blacker" event, that unfortunately, I'll also have to miss.

From past experience, I don't believe they sell tickets to events like this. My understanding is that there will be an entry fee (not sure what it is yet, though), which you simply pay at the entrance way (this is what they did for the fresh hop fest, and the description for this event sounds very similar). For those who haven't been to the new location, there is a fair size patio area outside the pub, which is where I assume the fest will take place.

This is the first year they've held the event at the new pub location, so I my guess is that they really don't know what to expect in terms of the size of the crowd. Anyway, I'll post the information if I find out anything more about the event.

You could well be right, but for the fresh hop fest, there were no problems. I didn't stay till the very end (got their early and left fairly early), but the crowd was pretty manageable, waits for a beer were short, and the staff seemed to have no problems handling the event.

    It's Eugene...

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. There's 2 (3?) other fresh hop festivals in the region. People weren't going to drive from Portland down to Eugene to go to that hop festival unless they really wanted to go to Eugene for some other reason. I'm pretty sure that taplist is going to be enough reason to get a lot of folks driving down.

I agree with Kevin. I could see people coming in from all over the place with that brewery line-up. Plus how do they know how many Teku's to order if they are not limiting the number of attendees?

Good point. That does make you think they'd want to set some sort of limit on attendees (but then again, they also had a special tulip glass for the fresh hop fest, and there were no advance tickets for that either).

Anyway, I'll stop speculatiing and will include the pub in my after work beer plans tomorrow and see what I can find out.

You could well be right, but that weekend is also Fort George's Dark Arts and Zwickelmania state-wide to split up the draw.

    Sounds good, let us know!

Dark Arts may give it some competition (their lineup was looking pretty good before Oakshire announced theirs), but at least personally I don't see Zwickelmania being much of a draw for the folks who are going to flock to this. Zwickelmania is a lot more of an "amateur" event, IMO.

Fair enough, people who travel for beer events are a different breed. Those on the fence, though, may be tempted by some hometown breweries doing something in their own neighborhood. I'm looking forward to Zwickelmania in Bend this year.

I'm guessing they'll overorder and this will be a yearly fest at which they can sell the old glasses and reorder as necessary in the meantime based on this year's attendance. It's a genius idea and if I had known about this before Dark Arts I probably would have skipped Dark Arts.
