You dont understand why someone would take a ML over a BMC? Its very simple. Only had 1 ML (C45) and it went down so smooth. Compare that with certain macros who are pretty harsh and give me the smooth drink over the harsh drink. I think thats makes sense I had a Dos Equis and it was harsh and grainy and I had to choke it down. Didnt have to choke C45 down. You want a less harsh more smoother BMC then PBR is a good way to go but from experience its in the minority as most macros are harsher.

Back in college (and probably more recently than I care to admit) we would mix up a "BROmosa", that would be 1/2 to 3/4 malt liquor topped off with the highest quality champagne (andre anyone?) . Quite a whimsical way to start any Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes even a decent way to salvage some flat brew too.

My first malt liquor was over 20 years ago when I was underage! I think it was a Mickey's or a St. Ides. Must have been a good night if I can not remember what I drank!

It doesn't see, to be widely understood that malt liquor is simply another name for beer.Perhaps for tax purposes or some other reason the word was misused by the authorities.Beer is a liquor brewed from malt.

I'll occasionally drink a Mickey's. Tom Waits is down with it, so am I.

While I can certainly understand why smooth is preferred to harsh, I'm not understanding why you would differentiate bewteen American Malt Liquor and American Adjunct Lagers. The Pabst products are just cheaper versions of BCM products, and brewed, I believe, by Coors/Miller.

And yes, I've had tons of PBR, so far back it was still considered a "premium beer". Never considered it harsh, or any macro for that matter, just bland. And American Malt Liquor is just bland AAL with a higher ABV. It is all marketing, nothing else.

Well, I kinda disagree on certain aspects, but agree on others.

Big AAL's do include malt liquors. However, the advertising budgets are "slightly disproportionate" to say the absolute very least possible. But then I'm not one to skimp on words, so I'll go one further. I can't recall ever seeing an advertisement for OE8, or various other malt liquors. Ok, ok, yeah, that billboard along the old state highway, got it. But bud "this bud's for you", coors "silver bullet", miller "tastes great, less filling" ... those are advertising campaigns. They don't NEED to advertise to malt liquor drinkers. We know what we want, and where to get it. :grinning:

And yes, most of the malt liquors are made by bud, coors, and miller. True but irrelevant!! Irrelevant! You will be assimilated. You will all will be assimilated. You will be digging for quarters under the front seat of your pickup truck, then suddenly... Wham! You're assimilated. :grimacing:

I also disagree (I think?) about Pabst blue ribbon. It ain't bad at all. I also like the schlitz regular in the brown bottles. IMO these are tasty AAL's. They have something in the way of character, something in the way of flavor. Perhaps this isn't in the BJCP profile for American Adjunct Lager (light lager, 1C), who knows. It's an enigma*. But what I DON'T like about bud light and coors light an 'nem is that they have NO flavor at all. If I wanted seltzer water with alcohol added, I'd buy some seltzer water and add everclear..

I find malt liquors to have more corn sweetness, more flavor, and yes, higher alcohol than the typical AAL. IMO, they are preferable. Opinions are like assholes tho, everybody's got one... :grimacing:

*I said... it's an ENIGMA. Don't quote me anything from your recent PhD from google university.

Serious question. I figure if someone makes it past last teens / early twenties without trying it then they probaby never will.

You've never been to a true urban area have you? Take the bus through North Philly and tell me they don't advertise Malt Liquor.

Of course there aren't network TV ads, they wouldn't be homing in on the target audience. Having Billy D say "It works everytime" is not going to sell a lot of 45 in Kansas or some suburban community. Hence all the billboards in poorer neighborhoods.

Well Im proof thats not true. I wasnt interesting in drinking any alcohol at a younger age. Not sure why but a close and beloved realitive having a drinking problem might have had something to do with it.

I bought a Weihenstephan Korbinean in Texas, the label claims it's a malt liquor, but it's just a weird Texas law.

Before the age of wisdom, I remember dropping a partial 40 of Olde English out the driver's side window of my 1974 VW....right in front of the police cruiser coming around the corner. I don't remember much else of that night... I didn't get stopped - I am thinking the disbelief factor must have been pretty high or the officer was somehow otherwise occupied. Seventeen years old...I would have been more worried about 'splainin' it to Dad than spending a night in the tank...

I had a malt liquor that the BJ's Brewery in Brea used to make. It was called JP88 and was actually pretty good. Can't say I've had another I enjoyed...

I'm still holding out hope that the local breweries, COAST, Holy City, and Westbrook, would brew some up.

Ah, Edward 40'Hands. My cohorts used to do 2x Stallion 10X or 2x St. Ides (players choice). I swear they put angel dust in Stallion 10X. I have seen more drunken haymakers thrown (over stupid shit!) after someone consumed Stallion 10X than I can remember.

As for Colt 45, yes, it is one of the better malt liquors IMO. But, at the end of the day, it is still get-ripped-off-your-ass-juice and should be used for one reason only. To get stinking drunk cheap

Fondest memory was going to my buddy's battle of the bands at DeSales University with 4 buddies and brought a whole case of Old E with us. Went to the car to pound in between sets.

Sounds like I'm dating myself, it was like 2 years ago lol
