For all the New Yorkers on Beer Advocate, this is a great opportunity to head up to Washington Heights and the Bronx and go to town of some Dominican food. Platanos for days and the food is damn good. Believe it or not, there are some good beer spots uptown too.

Same thing happened to me recently after I did a back to back taste test of BCBS and Sucaba. I took 3 weeks off from any drinking because all I could taste in any beer was alcohol. I might as well had been drinking a glass of vodka. Weirdest thing has ever happened to me.

I just started drinking again and have had a craving for hoppier beers. I was a total malt head before this.

This is why I drink multiple styles in a day/week so my palate never burns out. Grab your favorite Scotch or Old Ale and let the maltiness relax your palate.

did not read any other replies, sorry. My (maybe not yours) cure for beer burn out is no beer for a few days then some white wine.
    Gesundheit!

Founders Dirty Bastard is my reset beer. A night with only a couple of them makes the next day's Torpedo taste like my first. Your results may vary :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow! A lot of hop discussion today. Didn't quite realize the severity of this hop issue. Glad we're bringing it out in the open...LOL!

THIS has happened to me more and more often lately when I have Imperial or Double strength beers over 11 or 12%. Which I find strange because most wine is over this mark and I rarely if ever think wine tastes like liquor but with these strong beers I've been finding it more and more common of late. Switching to wine for a day or two or at least toning the beer down to a good Pils or Hefeweizen seems to do the trick for me though.

Lupulin Threshold Shift is why I like to mix things up and not buy more than 2 consecutive six-packs/four-packs of hoppy beer. That, and there's a lot of tasty non-hoppy beer out there.

Does drinking a good BA beer, stout, barleywine, saison etc ever hurt??

If you "can" take a week or 2 from drinking beer. I've done it and when I finally went back even my mainstay everyday drinkers seemed to be much more flavorful.
PS: My dry spell was when I was sick as fuck and didn't really want to drink.

You know, you really don't need to make up excuses like 'hop burnout' or 'namby pamby palate can't take it any more' in order to justify drinking those beers.

Thanks for the Tripel list. Love Chimay, St Bernardus, Allagash. Will try the others. Here's one that I thought a surprise:
Tribute Tripel - Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company

Do you know good craft brew pubs in Manhattan?

I definitely know what you're saying, when this happens with me I just head over to the wine fridge and switch to the noble juice for a few days or however long it takes.

I was on a huge stout kick through the summer, kind of opposite of most. Now I still love stouts but now I'm on a hop kick. I am sure like alot of things our tastes go in swings.
