Another vote for 3F. But Marriage Parfait may surpass it, very complex.

I'm a huge Bruery fanboi, society member blah blah blah, but Rueuze, at least 2013 (I don't have notes and can't remember previous vintage) is a disappointment to me. It's one dimensional and to me doesn't have any funk compared to the classics. I don't understand the ratings for it.

Rueuze sucks. Oh, and I know the white whales will start to be mentioned soon but they're not easily accessible so save it. Nobody is drinking Lente on a weekly basis. (Or at least I hope not.)

Girardin white… can be had in 330ml bottles pretty cheaply too. All the barnyard without the stomach acid

To each their own! Rueuze & SitR are pretty much the only Bruery beers I've enjoyed. I thought the 2012 Rueuze was ok but boring and the 2013 had a lot more going on.

I see how many people think this site is now just for noobs.
    Best gueuze really?
Lente, of course. . .3F OGV 2002. Properly cellared 1999 and Millennium by Drie Fonteinen. Cantillon bio, Tilquin. Beer 101 man.

best tasting from the bottle? 3F Gueuze of course. Oud Beersel, Cantillon Classic, and Hanssens are tasty as hell. On a budget Lindemans Cuvee Rene and St Louis Gueuze will do. Boon Gueuze will as well.

Not necessarily a 'noob', just a style I have started enjoying more and wanted a few opinions on where to go next. Is that not what this community is for?

I'm sure may people here have gone to college. There is a community for Physics 101 students, and there is a community for Physics Grad students.

I'm sure you understand the point that I am making.

I won't claim to be an expert or anything but the best I've had was my first batch of Tilquin and the worst was Hannsens (or however it is spelled). To be honest given the way this style is made there's so much variation I wouldn't be surprised if 99% of the time people couldn't pick their "favorite" out blind....purely because their favorite brand won't taste the same one batch to the next. As such, I don't know that it's really worth hunting down the more expensive and/or rare stuff like Cantillon or 3F. If I could find a decently priced 375ml of 3F I would try it (because it sounds like it has the maximum funk/least sour ratio) but no, only stuff I can find is $25 Golden Blend 375ml or $30(+) 750ml of the regular.

I've got some Tilquin and Girardin 1882 Black Label aging, figure I'll try them in four or five years and see if that changes my mind. As it stands now though I can have really sour beer and like it every once in a while, but the only type of "sour" I could see myself drinking on a daily basis (money permitting) would be a lightly sour but hugely funky beer with cork funk/fungus/yeast/mold. The best "sour" I've ever actually had was a Fantome with that combo (light sour, huge brett, pretty big cork mold) plus apricots. Hmmmm.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think of Mariage Parfait? Does the alcohol come through? It seems odd to me that a fruit-free lambic would consistently come out at 8%. Do they just deliberately blend in the strongest barrels?

I just put in an order for some cantillon beers. The cost has taken up my beer budget for the month, but I am incredibly excited! Hoping they live up to the hype. Gonna save a few for big occasions. :grinning:

You won't be disappointed! But you likely didn't get the best ones which unfortunately don't last long, Lou Pepes, Vig, St Lam, Fou etc. But if you did, your view of sours will dramatically change! Enjoy

And as to anything 3f, though not technically a gueuze, but intense red is not Armands best effort.
