I initially thought this as well, but then after the first one was created, I kinda ran with it.. I will not be listing everything I am bringing. In fact, I have no idea what I will list, now that I think of it. I can't share my bottles with everyone. And the fact is that our group is already quite large. Unfortunately, last release there were a few free-loaders who nearly ruined the share for my group. We didn't want to be assholes, so we let them linger and gave them pours, albeit tiny pours. I do not wish for this to happen again, so maybe publicizing our bottles is not the best idea after all? I don't know...maybe we can all just put a couple on there that we are willing to share with whomever.

    Wait what?

I thought the whole point of the in-line bottle shares were to be generous with everyone around you and taste things that you would not get to try otherwise.

Hording bottles in small groups, sounds a lot like the new BA trade forum mentality has now spread to the releases themselves which is a damn shame.

If you have rare stuff you do not want to share with anyone but your group, don't bring it, have a private tasting at your house where you can control the pours and everyone that gets them.

Every bottle I have ever brought to Foothills ( or any other release for that matter ) has been something interesting or difficult to find and have been HAPPY to share them with whomever wanted to try them.

That is the way things used to be anyway. Glad I'm skipping this one if that is the new attitude.

I remember walking down the street getting accosted by a BA with a bottle of double black who was excited to share it with anyone who he passed.

That would have been Joe (BucketBoy).....Ahhh those were the good ol' days!

As to bringing bottles....I completely understand if someone wants to share a special bottle among certain friends who they may only see at releases but, keep it in your cooler, box, etc. Having a bottle on a table or out in the open at a bottle share that you are not willing to share with anyone that may ask for a sample just sounds to me like a "look at me, look at me" bottle!

Pretty much. Just watch the line after daylight rolls around. The cops start to shut it down.

Don't worry too much about finding people to share with. For the most part everybody I've ever met there has been super friendly and generous to a fault. I'll be wandering around somewhere with some a couple of CCB goodies and other stuff.

I think you two are misunderstanding my comments. I guess I need to give all the details to get my point across. I do not hoard in small groups. Without trying to ring my own bell, I can promise you I am a very generous beer advocate and many, many of my friends in NC can attest to this. One of my favorite parts of these releases at Foothill's is that I can share with random people. In fact, I make it a point to go around the room pouring samples of whatever I bring for people I don't even know. I did this with probably 10 or more bottles at last year's Sexual Chocolate release. At the most recent release, BA Sexy, I literally walked over to a table of people I'd never met and sat down a 1/4 bottle of King Henry then walked away. I really love to share good beer with anyone who enjoys it. Now, on to the issue I mentioned above. Between my group from VA and all my numerous friends from NC and elsewhere, we had probably 20+ people towards the front at Foothill's once inside for BA Sexy (across several tables). We were still cool with sharing whatever with whoever, or at least my guys were (I can't speak for the other NC guys, but I know they share too!). However, there were 3-4 guys who specifically came over when they saw some bottles we were pulling out. So, they stayed, without even asking, expecting pours of everything. Now, again, we weren't being assholes, so we did pour for them. But they did not offer anything at all, and never even asked permission. Sorry, but that is not how it should work and frankly, I found it to be a bit disrespectful. Regardless of your opinion on this, we were nice about it. But as a rule of thumb, if you are going to participate in a bottle share, at least try to bring something to the table, but if you can't, no big deal....maybe just ask permission before just storming in and trying to get involved in a share where 22-25oz bottles are already being shared almost 20 ways. That was my point. I hope my comments are not misunderstood. Cheers, all.

I can vouch for my brother Kenneth above with respect to his generosity. That king henry was awesome and I'm always appreciative of that moment. But the chaos he speaks of is true. There are vultures out there that take advantage of the situation. It can get out of hand as the morning progresses for obvious reasons. And both shane and photekut (sry don't know your name) raise good points. If you're bringing a whale, monitor who consumes it.

Just out of precaution I have decided to not bring Loerik and Don Q to the bottle share. Unless I turn into Jesus before February 1st I don't see those 2 bottles going very far, especially far enough to share with everyone who will be there. It's a damn shame...

Or you could just bring them and let only those deemed worthy by the beer gods drink them and then when they are empty fill them half full of water and put them on your table for display to screw with people asking for samples, ala King Henry! True story it happened at the table next to where I was sitting!

Probably a good move if you would care about who gets a taste and what you are receiving back in return.

I recall at the last BASC release....there was a guy who was trying to TRADE me a taste of his Life is Like. This was not long after I had sent a BA Speedway (or something like that) around his table with no questions asked, or beers asked in return.

Of course, he was one out of too many to count who had shared great beers with me...no questions asked.
