I just learned that Bill Eye (brewmaster, and former head brewer at Dry Dock) has resigned as Prost Brewing's brewmaster effective today.

I don't know anything more, but an industry source confirmed with Bill before posting.

As a big fan of Prost Pils, I'm very interested to hear about Bill's plans and how this will impact Prost in the immediate and long-term.

Damn; I just saw him there on Wednesday. Wonder what's up? Isn't Prost HIS brewery??

From what I've read in the past, there's multiple partners involved at Prost.

I think the bulk of the capital came from the folks who used to own Braun's at the Pepsi Center and over on Blake. And it w as a LOT of capital obviously....

Wow. Very strange. A lot of their theme and what they do comes directly from Bill. Without him would they just swap over to being a massive contract facility or keep the German theme?
I wonder if Ashleigh is gone, too. I'd really hate to lose that dunkel. It's the best one I've had on American shores.

I'm at Lucky Pie Lodo with Bill & Prost staff. It's definitely true. Bill resigned as brewmaster; but remains an owner/partner.

Just heard that their assistant brewer was let go a couple of weeks ago too.

She was "released" in Dec. Not sure what's happening, but get their doppelbock while you can!

I hope they can keep it going; when I'm in the mood for a great lager, I pop into Prost....or the very least, get their pils at my watering hole (Old Chicago).

I'm heading over there today just in case this is the last hurrah for their German-style beers. There aren't many people that can do that place justice. The few people I know that could no longer live in CO.

Any chance this was their plan all along? Bill gets these guys started and then bows out into silent (part) owner once things are up an running? He couldn't have trained anyone these past couple years so that they can continue brewing these recipes on their own without a drop in quality?

Whoa?!? Quite an interesting move here. I could see this being the plans all along as Bill has been brewing for a long time, but still hard to see Prost without Bill... While a german lager wasn't always my first choice, every time I go it is hard to argue how spot on the beers are. Sure hope this does not change the place at all.

The one thing about Bill planning to walk away is that Ashleigh probably would have taken over, right? If she was let go (aka. she didn't just get hired on somewhere else), I tend to think something else is afoot.
They were doing really good business yesterday, though. They're still the closest thing to Bavaria I've had, too.
I suppose we'll probably get more of the story if/when Bill shows up somewhere else or they hire a new brewer.

I just wish they'd put their beer in bottles; I'm not buying a growler of anything. I've had the dunkel on tap in a few places, and it was really good.

Knew about this going down, but didn't feel comfortable leaking it. I love their beer, and have been one of their most vocal proponents, and really hope they maintain the quality as they move into more accessible packaging. If they can keep it together, I look forward to buying their stuff off the shelf.

As for the tasting room, itself, though... it hasn't been fun for a while. The music is totally wrong, it's too dark, and the overall mood of the place is gloomy and morose. I'm not saying they have to have the waitresses in dirndls all the time and pipe in constant German beer songs... but once in a while would be nice. Especially Oktoberfest, which was really lame this last go 'round. My wife and I made plans to hang out there all day... but one beer in, with nothing but acoustic Eddie Vedder and the Grateful Dead playing at low volume... we cut bait and went home to grill instead.

The classic rock and jamband thing is de rigueur, I guess, for Colorado breweries with a couple of Harleys parked outside and a pool table in the corner. But really, for Prost... shouldn't it be more upbeat and fun? Maybe have the biertenders break into an Ein Prosit on the hour every hour or something? I mean... something? Right?

So, again, I'm really hopeful to buy their great beer off the shelf, but the brewery itself needs work to be as successful as it should. It would be great if Prost was as fun a place to hang out as it was when it opened.

I still hate those growlers. I know they probably sounded like a great idea on paper, but they do NOT hold up well. I've purchased 4 of them and of those, 3 had gone south and had either soured or oxidized. The one good one I purchased at Prost on opening day. Of the bad ones, all were well without the freshness date, too.
I was unbelievably excited to see the Tivoli Helles in bottles...at least until I saw that it was actually another beer in disguise.
