Sure was: http://www.jokelibrary.net/yyDrawings/bottle_caps.html Not sure if they still do, and not about to find out. That was back when Mickey's still came in the "grenade" bottles, with the gian pull-ring top. Many sliced fingers...

All beer is malt liquor but a hard liquor made from malt is whiskey... British English problems.

I can definitely put down a few Mickey's. Love the puzzles on the bottom of the cap too lol.

That couldn't be more wrong. You are taking the name of the style way too literally. Just cause it is called malt liquor does not mean that every alcoholic beverage made with malt fits the style. Thats like saying a belgian style trippel brewed in america is an american pale ale because all the words fit the nearly abitrary style name. America- check. Pale color- check. Ale yeast- check. Allagash Trippel is now an american pale ale.

I put down quite a few Mickey's when I was in college. It's been a LONG time since I've had one though.

No, that's exactly what malt liquor means - any type of fermented alcoholic beverage made from malt, both Beer and Ale.

I kind of did the same with the Mad Dog and Old E but we used Orange Jubilee.Didn't have a name for it but it always equaled a good night.

Long before the creation of the higher alcohol "malt liquor" beer style in the US in the late '30s-early '40s, the term was the legal and industry phrase used when referring to all "beer" - lagers, ales, porters, weiss beer, etc.

The only malt liquor I ever had any experience with was Schlitz, because back in college at Duke the local minor league baseball team was the Bulls, and that led to a "game" called A Bull an Inning.

Just had my first malt liquor as well... a particularly skunked 32 oz of Olde English 800.

    Not recommended.

I used to go to the Liquor store by my house when times were tough to pick up some Mickey's or Steel Reserve. I think I'm going to have to go pick some up soon since I'm getting all nostalgic now.

I'm sure even prior to us breaking up with y'all back in 1776, we were already butchering the intended purpose of proper English :stuck_out_tongue:, throw some lawyers in & all bets are off...

It's not a matter of proper English, it's a matter of two words-malt and liquor. In what way does any beer not belong to them?
Refer to Jesskidden's post above; "Long before the creation of the higher alcohol "malt liquor" beer style in the US in the late '30s-early '40s, the term was the legal and industry phrase used when referring to all "beer" - lagers, ales, porters, weiss beer, etc.
I'm trying to find out why my American friends refer to some but not others malt liquors as "malt liquors" It's a bit like saying that there are poodles, beagles, labradors and dogs.

Isn't malt liquor the American version of Special Brew etc?

Maybe this is one of those American things like how in Texas "ale" means any beer over 5%?

Probably so, I'm just trying to pin down the origins.
