What beer are you drinking now? #464

Not something quite as incredible sounding as YOURS, but...

I'm finally having my first brew from Hofbrau... I actually really enjoy this beer.

I wish that I liked the snow half as much as my shepard...atleast i've got a beer to warm me up.

 

Ive had this on a few occasions now with different opinions and this bottle, for whatever reason, is the most enjoyable one I've had of it.

Oh, my sincerest of condolences...

 

This is a northern Swedish craft beer which sets out to be a Czech pilsner (the color is darker on the picture than it actually is, it's lightly amber). Everything from the brewhouse to the ingredients are Czech. It's unfiltered and unpasteurized. 4.7% abv. This is a really solid pilsner in my book. It has a noticable herbal hop aroma which carries over into the taste, where it's met up with a good strong bitterness (I'd wager that it approaches 40 or so IBUs) and a malt backbone which isn't sweet. You can tell that they use European hops instead of American hops since the hop flavors are very different. And it's not an APA-style lager, I enjoy those as well, but this is something apart from it, the balance of the hop flavors, bitterness and the malt is different. Considering the fact that they use Czech ingredients, traditional Czech brewing techniques, and considering the flavor profile of the beer, it makes me think that they might be approaching a classic rendition of a pilsner. I don't get any buttery notes though, so maybe it's a bit cleaner than Pilsner Urquell used to be (I get some light diacetyl from PU). They're a tiny brewery, yet they seem to have mastered the pilsner style which shows a great deal of dedication.

Funny..it reminds me of Hazed & Infuzed, but a tweet better. Neither are Bad (but not anything to write home about)..I expected a little more from the 'Schutesey though.
