Hey, I'm heading to Philly this upcoming weekend for a concert, and I'll be staying in town for a a day or two depending on the weather. I was wondering if anyone could give me some good suggestions for beer bars or shops to head to (outside of Monk's and Eulogy). I'm staying in the City Center area, but I'm driving down. So if there a must see beer shop within a 30 minute radius, I'd be willing to go. I appreciate the recommendations.

For bottle shops, you have to go to Old Philly Ale House, at 20th and Green. It's very close to CC, the prices are far better than what you will find at the best known CC bottle shops (Foodery), and they'll have most of the same rarer stuff available for purchase at a much lower price, including whatever Russian River and Lost Abbey stuff is currently out. If you venture up there, do yourself a huge favor and walk down Green to 21st St. and walk into Belgian Cafe. It is a far more spacious version of Monk's. Still go to Monk's, of course, but at least pop into Belgian Cafe for a beer if you are nearby.

If you go to Tired Hands, and you should, also consider venturing a bit further down Rt. 30 and check out Teresa's Next Door. On the way, you can stop by the Beer Yard in Wayne, if you are itching to buy a full case of something. A bit past Wayne is the Whole Foods in Devon; I've never been but hear the bottle shop there is very good.

Thanks! Very helpful. I am mapping out my plan of attack today. And yes, we were planning on going to Tired Hands on Saturday morn. Thanks again.

Tired Hands opens at noon on Saturdays.
Also, there is a bottle store a block away from TH, pretty decent selection, prices are a little on the higher side.

Thanks for the heads up. I was under impression that they opened at 10am.

    Thanks,
