Yea it's just a bummer because a lot of the times I can find out when the beer will be in the area down to the week or even day, but down to the hour is too much having a regular job. They won't post ahead of time about beers that are coming in, just when the cases are actually there. Then they post it on facebook after their employees take what they want. Hoarding it for themselves and their friends if you ask me...

yeah that is a bummer. as an ex liquor store employee i can honestly say if there was only 2 bottles of pappy or 3 bottles of black ops they would prolly never hit the shelf....but that was only extremely rare releases and it was not a regular occurrence. it is in the stores best interest to keep the customer wanting to come back in.

Does the store have quality beer and decent prices? The employees can talk all they want, as long as the prices are fair I will ignore them long enough to make my purchases. I may not go as far to say that I expect this behavior at a store but it certainly would not surprise me. There are far more important things for me to consider when I am deciding where to spend my money.

I don't put the embellishing and bragging in the same category as flat out lying to a customer. One is an irritating character trait and business tactic, the other is a ethical issue, I am not ready to call out someones ethics based on what has been described above.

prices are above average usually 50 cents to $1 per 6 pack or bomber. but it is right near the Target where my wife likes to buy diapers, groceries, etc. selection is above average but not phenomenal. there is 2 or 3 stores with comparable selection and better pricing but they are 5-10 minutes out of the way , which doesnt sound like much, but can be an issue with 3 kids in the car haha.

I usually keep to myself, near christmas i heard a guy explaining to a guy looking for german beers that why-en-staner is kinda hoppy and pumking was like an awesome oktoberfest, i corrected his pronunciation of weihenstephaner nicely enough as I walked by and continued to browse the aisle, I walked by him and the customer again talking about how his great grandpa came straight from germany and so he would never mispronounce a german breweries name..I speak german fluently..I guess they taught me the wrong language!

A week ago I walked into a random store that had a 4 pack of bcbbw behind the counter. I bought it and mentioned how surprised I was that he still had a 4 back on the the shelf. The guy turned out to be the store owner and told me how he has this amazing hookup who always supplies him with bourbon county. He then proceeded to say how he was surprised bcbvs was all the rage this year (weird). In response, I told him I recently had the chance to drink vanilla and rare, and he told me that he was hooked up with two 4 packs (yes, 4 packs) of rare when it came out and is saving them in the back for retirement. He clearly had no idea what he was talking about haha. I didn't call him out on it or anything, but I found it to be such an odd thing to lie about.

TL;DR: ISO: bourbon county rare 4 packs

Been thinking about this recently: Does anyone call their local distributors and ask where and when they have distributed a certain beer? Or do they not do this?

    True.
However, getting super mad at someone for embellishing a story is just like getting mad at someone for lying to a girl to get her in bed. We have all done that!

As to him being super mad, the OP was mad enough to make a post about it instead of letting go or posting something actually important.

I guess it's not really embellishing, rather just being a douche bag, but this store clerk definitely rubbed me the wrong way the other day. I was walking through the store and saw a guy looking at an Epic Sage Brett. Not knowing he was an employee, and just having had Sage Brett the night before, I said to him "that's a damn good beer." His response - "I know, I sell it." Thinking that was a rude way to answer I said, "so you've had it?" And he replies "nope". I told him that he obviously doesn't know then.

Hey Fucker, how about being a little professional next time? I just don't understand what happened to customer service. It seems to be non-existent at many places.

Next time tell him you have 2 cases of M in your cellar. Show him what real lying is all about.

It's a slightly bothersome thing for liquor stores to do, but I just ignore it. If the store is worth shopping at keep shopping there regardless of the employee fibs. Just don't ask them if a beer is good or not. I've heard far worse embellishments from customers at craft bars.

Exactly, his job is to impress and engage you for the purpose of sales. Even if it means talking straight BS. Happens in everywhere in retail, regardless of the product.

oh wow. cause everything on beeradvocate is such an important pressing issue....haha...its just beer. and im discussing beer. trust me, as a father of three and a chef at a drug rehab i have much bigger issues than these and this does not make me seriously upset in any way. but if we cant discuss this on beeradvocate, then where else? is this website not specifically made for discussions like this? does every thread have to be 'important', as deemed by you? cant someone ask a question without being 'super mad' ? clearly from the responses in this thread there is at least a few other people who find this topic worthy of discussion.

There's one store on the way home from the school I work at that is like this. They all seem like used car salesmen to me. Complete with the ties and pleated pants look, but they are all nice enough. Their selection is also pretty excellent so I put up with their talking.

The store I frequent the most is not like this at all. Their beer manager is straight up about everything, and not trying to give customers the hard sell. He just wants to be one of the best beer stores in the area.

I worked retail for long enough to know it is all part of the job.

Hey... Some of us "skinny jean wearing wannabes" actually do have great taste, and are more thoughtful/discerning than most. Good beer doesn't discriminate against jean size.

Also, why not have some fun and show them up? Seems to me to be an extremely enjoyable practice.

Uh thats crazy talk. We all know what will happen if talk is not beer related. Actually, the people that know what will happen are gone, so theres that.

As to the discussions, am I able to make points, or propose ideas, here, referring to the OP's post? As to the OP, he was complaining about someone embellishing about beer or their knowledge of it. Who here hasnt? I was calling him out on how he called another out. Turnabout is fair play.

As to the responses in the thread, there are still people on this site who bring up the Heady vs Pliny debate, so a post is not an indicator of anything.

Directly to you, I know how it is to have 3 kids, or used too, as I have 4. I wake up to screaming in my ears every day, and take care of 2 of them before I go to school. Totally awesome to have PTSD as well, because things are soooo easy with them. Everything in my life is more important than beer, unfortunately. I have no money right now and have drank everything in my cellar except for the whitest of whales. Sucks.
