Anything from Hill Farmstead.. It seems basically hopeless in CA without giving up your first born in a trade.

Like many others, Lawson's beers elude me. I've had Maple Nipple and Ava on draft, but have never gotten bottles. I live in the southwestern corner of the state, and work M-F, and there's just nothing to be found on a Saturday anywhere.

And I can't really trade for it because I get all the same beers every other Vermonter gets, so it's kind of a lost cause at this point

The first beer I really struggled to find was KBS back when it was whale status. This was like 05 or 06 when I first got into craft and it and Dark Lord were like THE beers in the US to find. I didn't finally get my hands on one until a bit later. At least a year or two.

But right now, it's KBBS. Screw you, Toppling Goliath!

This thread tells me to stop compaining about not finding a certain beer. Too many of these were/are easy finds.

I waited a while to try heady. Not years and years but probably a good year ans a half from when I got into craft and finally getting to try it. And I'll be honest, it was sooooo worth it.

It depends on what you're going for. I pined and dreamed of Dark Lord for years when it was the number 2 beer to Westy (and later became number 1). It blows my mind now that you can just get it on a whim now. Before Christmas, I decided I wanted to surprise my best friend with a bottle of it and I posted the ISO with a few things I was willing to trade for it and I had a deal within 5 minutes for a 2010 bottle. It took me years to even get within striking distance of that beer when I first started.

Stone IRS 2011 back in Houston, Texas. Yep, Stone IRS does have a whale status in TX. I spent a month and drove some 300 miles chasing delivery trucks, store-to-store, because each store was only getting a case or two's worth of allocation and it was mostly gone within hours of arrival. Thanks to some wonderful folks at the various Specs locations, I was able to land some....and that in effect, my friends, started my cellar....

I feel like DARKLORD or any of the variants will be the beer that I never get to try :slight_frown:

I think the Whale hunting is more about the act of the hunt than getting the Whale. I don't sweat the hard to get stuff too much like HF, Heady, Dark Lord, CBS, etc. Would I like to try them? Hell yes! Would it alter my life if I do get to taste them or don't? No. So I let it come to me, one of these days I will get to try some of these things and that's amazing but some I won't and that's ok. Most people hunting whales isn't about trying the beers its about the excitement of trying to get them and the bragging rights that come with them.

You never know one these years 3 Flloyds might buy a Budweiser size brewing facility and start cranking out the stuff just because they say no now doesn't mean no forever. Same with R&R maybe they will sell the brewery one day and recipes or decide to expand.

If you're willing to trade, Dark Lord is not that hard to get anymore and it'll get even easier right after Dark Lord Day this year when everyone and their mother has some up for trade.
