Black Raven gets no hype - and I supose I should be glad since that means I can easily acquire their beers at release - but considering the quality of their beers, they should.

The do a coconut porter that's on the shelves now called Coco Jones. Very good.

Not that awards mean much, but 2010 world beer cup gold medal.

So if someone prefers one beer over another they are a Hater and just silly for doing so? I would love more of an explanation on that theory and why your righteous palate is the be all end all to coconut beers.

I completely agree, Norm is fantastic and they should give they coconut IPA a shot. Stone was very disappointing.

Cicerone, Beer Steward MBAA and BJCP say so. That's why.

Right, so all we all have to bow down to the pretentious letters that say "our tastes are better than yours, you must obey"

I'm not going to say that panels or awards create reality, but I do think there's some objectivity here; not everything is a matter of taste or preference. Some things simply are better than others. That's not to say that you can't prefer things that are inferior. I, for example, am not a big fan of opera. Any opera. I'd rather listen to rap, rock, old bluegrass ... just about anything. But that doesn't mean I won't acknowledge that L'Orfeo is superior musically to Yeezus. Nobody is saying I "must obey" but people would probably say I'm a little silly if I start arguing that Kanya's musical genius surpasses that of Monteverdi.

If any one of us walked into a gas station and looked at the selection, we'd probably agree on a lot of things. SNPA is a much better beer than Corona, for example. We'd probably agree that this is objectively true - not just a matter of taste, preference, or something ordained by "pretentious letters."

Maybe a better example. Momi Hiwa is a 4.15 and Prop is a 4.71 on BA. That's a difference of .56. The difference between Red Hook ESB and Fuller's ESB is about the same. Ditto for the difference between Hoptimum and Heady. Would it seem as controversial to say that Fuller's and Heady are the superior beers? I suspect that the statement seems more disputable when both beers are clearly excellent, as is the case with Momi and Prop ... and even that Fuller's over Redhook would seem less controversial than Heady over Hoptimum. The distinction between an Okay and an Outstanding beer seems more defensible than that between an Outstanding and a World Class one. But that doesn't mean the distinctions cease to exist.

    End digression. ;-)

I completely agree with you but that wasn't his point. He said flat out that if you like Momi better than Prop you are either a hater or silly or both. Then spouted off all his titles which he is, ironically, neither a certified MBAA beer steward or certified cicerone. Both organizations list all people who passed those certifications on their websites. At best he is an adjunct which means you can download the material and take an online open book test for basic certification which you, me or any other BA can do by tomorrow if we chose to.

So I'm not a Cicerone, didn't study WITH Ray in a classroom session for 30 hours for 5 days at my place of business? I hope my company gets its $1000 dollars back, per person that he trained. Oh, and the same building where Mary from MBAA came to administer our Stewardship course.
For the record- my posts to you were clearly sarcastic, but when you start calling out my achievements without having a clue as to who I am, you are just asking to start some shit. PM me if you'd like to see my name on both lists... or I can post on here, if you'd like?

People mistake the coconut "pieces" with coconut oil clumps. I think this is the case. I have had many, and have 12 left for you people who are dying to trade for one. I think it is coconut oil.
