I live on the south side of Atlanta (Tyrone / Peachtree City area) and have been into craft beer for several years, but have spent a lot of that time working on my Brewniversity status at Taco Mac (been at the PhD level for a while now) and focused more on trying quantities of new beers vs. going after quality beers. I joined the BA community about a year ago and it has opened up a whole new world. It's been great learning more about the quality brews out there and attempting to try them all (although it hasn't been all that good for the budget!). Unfortunately, most of my friends either prefer BMC offerings or don't venture out too far from local craft beers they can pick up at Kroger. None of them travel much or have gotten into trading for out-of-market beers like I have. I've been on a quest to try all 100 Beers of Fame beers over the last year. I started somewhere in the 40's when I joined BA and am now up around 90. I have about 5 more sitting in my beer cellar that I've been staring at for months now. It just seems selfish to crack open a Parabola, Sucaba, or Abyss while sitting around the house watching TV (and I probably don't need 22 ounces of 13% beer in one sitting on my own anyway). I've been to the First Sunday bottle share at the Wrecking Bar and although it is incredible, it's just too tough for me to get downtown on Sunday afternoons very often with family commitments. Going to any of the various bottle shares up on the north side of the city is just out of the question. So after that lengthy intro, do any fellow BAs know about (or have any interest in starting) a bottle share on the south side of town in the Peachtree City / Tyrone area? I normally travel a couple times a month and always try to hit up local breweries or bottle shops to bring back non-GA distro beers. I'm not a super active trader since we don't have a lot of trade bait available around here, but do trade every once in a while. If you know of anything, hit me up...
I'd be down for one myself. Albeit, I'm not quite sure when I could find the time to do so, since I'm home on the weekends with my 5 month old boys, and can rarely get out much at the moment! @GABrew , I'm in the Newnan area by the way.
I know the feeling! I have four girls age 6 and under myself, the youngest being 5 months old. That's why getting downtown or OTP North to take part in any of the big group bottle shares up there is a challenge. Have you found any restaurants/bars down this way to be friendly to a bottle share? Maybe we can get something going once we're off baby duty!
I'm in Decatur and always enjoy a bottle opening, though my really only available time is Sunday night after work, whereas a lot of people need that time to get ready for the school and work week. Wednesday early evening might be an option if needed but I won't make any promises.
Yeah, once baby duty slows, I'm game. I'm a member at a golf club/course, and I'm pretty sure they'd be cool with a bottle share I bet. TV's, seating, bathrooms, and a bar with full food service too. Would be worth looking into.
I'm new here, but went to quite a few shares back when I lived in Texas. I'm a student, but I have a lot of work that needs to be done, and I tutor Sundays (though I may be able to move those to Saturdays). I'd definitely be interested in getting into the share scene here, whatever that may be (I haven't seen much about it, but I haven't looked very hard--the SW forum is almost entirely Texas, so there's more of a sense of community there).
If you want leads on great bottle shares and other events around the city, join the Atlanta Beer Talk email list. Lots of good stuff going on that gets announced through that forum. Unfortunately (for me), most events are in the downtown/Decatur/Little 5 area, or up north of the perimeter. Not much action down on this side of town.
