    From the Dogfish Head newsletter:

Our newest beer is a social collaboration of worldwide proportions.

The seed for Urkontinent was planted when Dogfish asked beer-loving tech types around the world to suggest ingredients for a new off-centered ale. More than 100 ideas poured in, and a small team from the brewery (and a few of our beer-loving tech friends) narrowed the list to five:
    • Wattleseed from Australia
    • Toasted amaranth from South America
    • Rooibos tea from Africa
    • Myrica gale from Europe
    • Honey from the United States
The careful combination of ingredients gives this 8.1% ABV Belgian dubbel notes of coffee and chocolate-covered cherries.

"It's a complex beer that starts with a ton of mouthfeel, some molasses and roasty notes," says Sam Calagione, "then ends clean and dry."

Check out what else Sam has to say about Urkontinent in this Quick Sip Clip.

Haven't opened my bottle yet, I am having it at a bottle shop tasting tonight so that will tell me if I want to open mine, save it, or buy more. I'm a huge DFH fan so I am probably going to be a little biased.

I had it at the alehouse in Gaithersburg this past Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised!

sounds great. have to say, i'm glad that DFH manages to be both wildly successful and still sort of scoffed at by much of the BA crowd. i like being able to find all their new beers without rushing to the store.

I think the show had a lot to do with their success. I find I drainpour DFH more than any other beer :slight_frown: Some of their stuff is outstanding, but a lot is just "gee lets throw [ insert random kitchen ingredient ] in! ".

i think making outstanding beers for a couple decades has more to do with their success(:. they have made a lot of great ones, even if some have been very polarizing.

i get why people think they just throw random crap into a bottle, but most of these "out there" beers end up very well-received on the whole. not to mention how well they do in-demand styles (WWS, olde school, though both need to be aged several years, which is annoying).

Yeah - it would be awesome if they devoted space to storage, like wineries do. Release WWS already 3 years old. Would be awesome.
