You are correct that I don't really like coffee, although BCBCS and Big Hugs were perfectly good beers that I'd drink in spite of not liking coffee too much.

I used to drink Old Rasputin years back (my dad really likes it, but this was before I was really into craft beer, so I don't even remember it too well), and it seems like everyone agrees on that, so I have to give it another try. I've also been meaning to try Ten Fidy and Narwhal, so I'll have to do that as well.

The reason I've stuck to "high end" stuff is #1 curiosity and #2 the fact that I'll prioritize buying one-offs and limited beers before stuff I see every week (which is why I've had Surly Darkness but not Ten Fidy, which I do see literally every week).

    Thanks guys, keep 'em comin!

You see the Avatar you already know... Courage Imperial Russian Stout. That one blows all the rest out of the water being a non barrel, non chocolate, non coffee aged stout. FWIW My Opinion Only.

I think with any RIS you should be okay. If you really want to go with something complex go with Deschutes The Abyss. One of the best beers I have ever had and worth the $15-$16.

Also Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, but the OP would have to trade for it, since it's only available in Virginia. I was talking to someone whose cousin is a brewer there and he said that Jim Koch actually stole their recipe and brewed Merry Maker as a direct imitator.

Founders Imperial Stout is by far my favorite. Most Russians (less BA) are just too sweet for me.
Schlafly's Irish Stout (~imperial at 8%) is another one far from sweet. It's also out now
You might be a fan of scotch ales like Founders Dirty Bastard, too.

Brash's Smoglifter is pretty good. All the Yeti variants are really good imo especially the oak aged. Also Peche Mortel and Black Albert are a couple of my favorites.
