Actually I have two breweries that make me long for the "Good Old Days" when they flitter through my mind...Heavyweight Brewing from NJ and Wild Goose from MD. What is your long lost friend?

Heavyweight is up there, but ultimately it's Catamount for me. I drank so much of their stuff back then- they were definitely in my heavy rotation, along with the biggies like Sierra Nevada and Anchor. The Porter and Christmas Ale probably wouldn't really stand out today, as good as they were, but I still think the Gold was something special and unique.

I remember sharing an Oatmeal Stout with an old Dead-friend years ago, and at the time, it was one of the best stouts I had ever tried.

Catamount was the first brewery I thought of when I saw this thread. Porter was excellent.

I was thinking more of the original core lineup, but now that you mention it I do remember that one from the late 90s. A similar beer these days would be New Holland's The Poet. Good stuff.

Kind of like the magnificent bastard son of Deschutes Black Butte and Edmund Fitzgerald. It was wonderful on tap, as the hops really shone that way- and best consumed by the pitcher.

New Amsterdam. Probably would be shit today, but it was one of my first microbrew relationships

Catamount the first thing I thought of. Loved some Wild Goose but mainly the Snow Goose...

An old brewery from Cleveland, Erin Brew! Another is Pete's Wicked! I remember having something from them, back in the day and getting a massive headache! I stayed away from them, but really believe the headache was from something else! Feel bad I never gave them another shot before they were gone!

Not sure if you're near Philly, but Tom Baker from Heavyweight is the brewer at Earth Bread + Brewery on Germantown Ave in Mt Airy http://www.earthbreadbrewery.com/

    Pete's

(and yes, I am sure someone like Jesskidden will chime in with "they are actually a contract brewer and didn't establish their own "brewery" in the traditional sense", but I care not. I miss the name on the bottle that brewed the stuff in the bottle, regardless of their exact definition. No offense to jesskidden, whose knowledge and research on all things beer is amazing)

I had a Wild Goose Snow Goose I believe it was, excellent brew. Purly nostalgic Schmidts when it was brewed in Philly, grew up on 6ers of Schmitty 16's for $1.

Harpoon does own the recipes and such from Catamount - their Vermont facility is the old Catamount brewery. They do sometimes brew the old recipes - most as brewery-only released, but one of them was in the 100-barrel series a couple years ago.

To me, one of the first breweries I really got into as a fledgling beer keep some 15+ years ago was Devil Mountain out of California. They had a stout that was fantastic. I think they closed down, then someone bought the rights and names and so forth but I don't think anything has happened with it in years.
Also, the original Dixie brewery. I know they closed, then reopened, then got wrecked in Katrina. THey are doing contract brewing now, but it's just not the same as when they had their own facility.

Yes-six pack of Schmidt tall boy bottles or "nukes" as we called them. Not a $1 in my day more like $2...

LOL, Schmidts was pretty good for back in the day, but when your 16 who cares. If we had a little more money we bought Pony's of Rolling Rock for $3.50 a case.

A beautiful little place up north in Boyne River, MI called Boyne River BC. It was a nice family run place that had a lineup of good, solid beers. I still have their Lake Trout Stout on my wants list!
The owner got sick and had to sell but it was never the same. I believe Joe Short either worked for or with them.
