Sam Adams sent my bar a few cases of pint glasses with the Rebel IPA logo on them, so there is definitely some product placement going on. Where they really dropped the ball, though, is sending us 3 bbls of Cold Snap instead of Rebel. -_-

    Your distributor, not Sam Adams...

Tried Rebel and laughed. There is nothing rebellious about doing a weak imitation of an established style.

I'm drinking my first Rebel right now and I'm digging it. There are plenty of IPAs I like more but this one's both solid and a step up from what I usually expect from Sam Adams (other steps up being Double Agent and, especially, Noble Pils).

I'm guessing this brew would be receiving a more positive reaction on this site if it were marketed as an IPA generally rather than as a West Coast IPA specifically. It's not particularly West Coast but it's certainly good.

finally tried Rebel ipa, 12oz bottle, and its really good, much better than Lag IPA. Hope we see this in cans in time for summer activities. SA hating craftnerds will be conflicted on this one for sure

The 4-pack is 2 bottles of Hop Stoopid and 2 bottles of Lucky 13.

I tried the Rebel IPA last night, it was decent. Not a standout by any means but drinkable for sure.

tried Rebel last night muted hop flavors rather bland another average beer by Sam Adams. One of these days Sam Adams you are going to brew a beer I like I know it! Can not comment on Lagunitas IPA it has been a long time since I had that although I obviously wasn't over the moon about it I never bought more.

It's really not that worth it. The Rebel IPA is exactly what you would expect from Sam Adam's. Interesting concept, but a lack of execution. Lagunitas Sucks blows Rebel out of the water. In fact, I would say that every single Lagunitas beer blows every Sam Adams beer right out of the water. Now granted, everyone's palate is drastically different, and everyone likes different things, but that Rebel IPA is nothing more than an entry-level IPA. Translation - average smell, average taste, average this, average that.

that is very unfair to compare it to Sucks. Rebel is not a DIPA and it's not in the same league shouldn't even be allowed in the same conversation as Sucks. Like comparing a Rolls Royce to an Escort there are some minor differences.

I think Rebel vs Lagunitas IPA is a good comparison (but not Sucks; that's crazy). I enjoy Lagunitas IPA on tap, but I don't buy bottles of it. There are too many other IPAs and DIPAs I prefer. Same with Rebel: I am not going to buy a 6/12 pack of it, period, unless maybe I was hosting a party and wanted a cheap IPA for the crowd. But on tap? It's a decent beer, pretty tasty, and in the big bars around here (non-craft bars; think B-Dubs), it's often better than the alternatives.

If we got that in at the local bowling alley instead of Longhammer IPA, I'd be pretty happy, and I'd consider it an upgrade. (They have like 6 taps, and most of it is BMC.)

I'm pretty sure those Lucky 13's you got are gonna be pretty old by now...

BBC needs to figure out if they want to appeal to the masses that are curious about craft or the crowd that is into craft and wants great examples of styles. Doing both is hard to impossible and I feel that is where they are.

Love Lag IPA. However just bought a 12 of Rebel as I am originally from Boston / Cape Cod and remember when BB first arrived.

First one had at room temp (only hope it gets better when chilled)

Reminded of the many times I have been at a children's school fundraiser where someone bought Safeway Select Cola instead of Coke.

I didn't complain or whine. But I couldn't help thinking how good that Coke will taste the next time.

    Sorry Bill.

Keep up the good work Tony.

Hey by the way Tony, from my travelling i have encountered real problems with stale stock in far corners of the US with Lag IPA. Just saying.

Grabbed a 12 pack tonight and I really like it. I agree calling it a west coast IPA is probably lowering its rating. It is just an easy drinking nice IPA, for 12.99 a 12 I will grab it from time to time. If they can it maybe even more often. Frankly I think it is put together a little better then Lagunitas IPA... with that said I enjoy every other Lagunitas hoppy beer more, the IPA is just a little muddy to me.

We did a blind taste test of Rebel IPA versus Lagunitas IPA last Sunday. There were four of us tasting. Lagunitas overwhelmingly one the taste off. It wasn't even close.

Trying a Rebel for the first time right now. Not very good. Lagunitas IPA is much better IMHO.

I had the opportunity to try Rebel at a beer festival a week or so ago. It tasted like a penny. Closer to Anchor Steam than a West Coast IPA. Avoid.

Hell, flood Southern AZ with Sucks; I've only found 5 measly bottles in Tucson after practically swimming in it last winter!
