Bell's Hopslam (2014)

They have it at Mari's 6 pack and more in Reading, Pa. The catch is you can only buy 1 bottle, and to get it you have to finish out the 6pk with 5 other Bells beers!! WTF is that?? Glad I've secured two cases here in Florida, but was there this past week and going to bring a six pack back with me. No thanks, so grabbed two sixers of Nugget Nectar

 

That shocks me about Mari's. I've only read good things about them. This is seriously a terrible way of handling a great beer. The good news is, to me, Bells makes other great beers too but to hold a single Hopslam hostage to five other beers is stupid, at best.

 

If that is true, then shame on Mari's for that.

It's overrated. There are a ton of DIPAs out there that are far better. Hopslam was a novelty for a while but has been badly surpassed in quality since.

I totally agree with you, in fact I'm really starting to think that Bell's as a whole is totally overrated. Other than Two hearted and maybe Kalamazoo Stout, their year round and seasonal beers are average at best. While I do like the honey part of Hopslam, I just can get myself to spend $18-$20 for a 6pk.

 

I've always thought that Bells was a bit overrated, although one offs like G. Falls Lager and Wedding Ale were really good, and I would never turn down a Two Hearted or a Third Coast Ale. I actually like Hopslam but stopped buying it by the case a few years ago. More than one in a night and I get a massive headache.

 

You guys are crazy. Hopslam is very unique and one of the best DIPAs out there. There's lots to choose from that are just as good, but that doesn't demote how good Hopslam actually is.

 

It's a good beer, no doubt, or we wouldn't be here 10 pages in talking about it.

Price sucks on it, but hey, it's a once a year treat for most. I enjoy it, but I don't think it's earth changing good. I wouldn't truck chase it. Around here, a place sold out their allotment in 31 minutes.. Seriously? It was like just a couple cases, and they limited it to 1 sixer a person.

In any case, seek it out, and try it. Worth everyone having a shot at trying it, but don't go way out of your way to get it.

 

Was finally able to land some yesterday... $17.45 + tax per sixer. Bottle date 01/16/14. Oh yes.

 

No, it really isn't. Quite good, sure. Not one of the best...

 

Regardless of what some folks are saying about the substandard taste of Hopslam, or that there are many out there that are better. fine. in this world of a million tastes whether it be for beer or pizza, there is not going to be a "best". i personally think Hopslam is brilliant. It's everything I want in a beer. I've been drinking it since the first year of it's release and I like it as much now as ever.

I've been drinking craft (or microbrewed/imported beer as it were) since about 1993. I've had thousands of beers, hundreds of hoppy pale ales, blah blah blah... and at the end of the day, it I were to only have one beer, it would be Hopslam.

I could care less about the hype. As a matter of fact, hype bothers me.

But this isn't a competition, enjoy what you do. if you happen to like other DIPA's more than Hopslam, then great.

To those that love Hopslam as much as I do, cheers! And to those who haven't had a Hopslam, try one if you can. You might love it like I do... or not. To those who feel the need to post on a Hopslam release topic in order to complain about it, cheers to you too! and to whatever beers you enjoy more.

(I typed this post on Super Bowl Sunday.. as i watch hockey, drinking both Victory Hop Ranch and Lagunita's Sucks... both delicious and since Hopslam has sold out all around me.)

 

i hear this from a lot of people that arent able to get as much they wanted. personally for me its the best widely distributed DIPA there is. i would drink it all year if it were available.

 

Nugget Nectar is out already? When did this happen?

 

For anyone that hasn't tried it, you really need to try it. Do not listen to people saying it's not that good, it is very good. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it tasty? Also yes. You may not think it's the greatest beer you've ever had in your life but you will not regret drinking it either.

Anyone know if VA is finally getting it this week?

 

It is a decent IPA, but in no way value for money. I would much rather have Sucks for half the price. We did a comparision between Hopslam , Sucks, Enjoy By and Sculpin and the order was Enjoy By, Sucks, Sculpin and Hopslam .
