So, what are your must haves from the list posted so far? The sour list is ridiculous.

It is insane that they're getting C*ntillon on draft. See you at 11AM Friday.

Considering calling in sick to work that day... Might be worth it.

Does anyone know how packed it is on Friday when they open?

Also, are the prices jacked up on everything/will I be paying $15 for a glass of Cantillon?

I can't answer that question, but I was there at 11am for the bourbon county black friday and it was maybe 15 people. That was pretty damn enjoyable lol.

This seems to be a lot crazier though. I have no idea what to expect. Here's to hoping I can convince my gf to drive!

As noted above in this thread, yes it will be absolutely packed when Max's opens at 11:00 on Friday. If you want to be sure of getting a seat at 11:00, you probably need to get there at least an hour in advance. There will absolutely be a line (a LONNNNNGGGGGG line).

And no, prices will not be jacked up, if you mean by that will Max's be charging higher than normal prices than they would otherwise. That being said, some of the kegs they're pouring are very limited and/or expensive. so don't be surprised if some beers are on the spendy side. Still, a lot of the beers at this event are available from time to time during the year, and it's been my experience that what you pay for glass of Delerium Tremens or Duchesse de Bourgogne in July is what you'll be paying for a glass at this event as well.

What I think is insane is how big a deal this has become. 4 or 5 years ago they had 6 or 7 Cantillon beers on tap (including the St. Lamvinus, which Max's used to have on tap fairly often), and there were even several of them still going the Monday after the event. Today that's completely unimagineable... my how times have changed.

They had the 100% Geueze for Rare & Obscure I believe and that stayed for like three days. Also, the best part is that ALL samples are $3.50. I spend a lot just when buying samples at their special events, I couldn't imagine getting mostly pints (drunk and expensive). You gotta love the 10 oz. pours for all samples at German Fest though. @zefarrett I was at the BCBS Black Friday thing as well. I only got their like maybe ten minutes before they opened and that put me second in line. Everybody showed up at opening or like 5 minutes before.

I was there as well, and it was no problem getting a bar seat. We need some sort of BA hand signal for Belgian Fest.
The Dawson's/Burley Oak/Max's "10" bourbon barrel quad bottles are going on sale that Friday as well. They only bottled 100.

This is the first time I will be going on Sunday instead of waiting in line on Friday.....I picked a bad year to do it that way, apparently.

Well, I can only guess that you will be wearing a red cape and an all red superhero suit. But for the sign, we could just use the ASL (American Sign Language) sign for beer. I guess I can't say I'll know where I will be since I can't really imagine how busy this will be, but I will most likely be hanging in the corner at the far end of the bar where it ends or with whoever I find first that I know.

I only know the ASL the guy from the Nelson Mandela memorial showed me.

I'll have a Fantome shirt on, stop me and say hey.

I met a couple of friends last year on Sunday and there was no line and a few seats available around noon (if I recall the time correctly). It did get slightly more crowded fairly quickly, but it died off early afternoon.

We were thinking about trying Friday or Saturday this time around but the above posts are scaring me off a bit. I don't get along with lines and elbow to elbow crowds. I wish Sour day wasn't on a Monday. Would be nice to see them squeeze that in over the weekend.

Everytime you order a beer, let out a loud "Baagawwwwwwkkkkk!"

I know it is popular but this is only the second time they've done it, so possibly as sours/wilds grow in popularity (which they are) they might either put it on Sunday or give it its own weekend (which would be my suggestion). However, I feel like most people still aren't into sours or possibly even know they exist. The people that go there on Monday are most likely BAs or people that know their beer. I think giving them their own weekend would make it so people would get more time with them and also increase their visibility. It's not like they couldn't do it. I mean there is already a Hopfest and I think if there is something else that deserves its own event, it would be sours since they are so unique and obviously different. It's the only reasonable event that I could see Max's adding in the future. I mean you're not gonna get a barleywine or stout weekend (they are kind of covered by rare & obscure). The only other ones that I could think of would be an American (this is everyday for them) or an English weekend (only other major group/region of styles they don't cover).

As gillagorilla mentioned, this is only the second year that they've had a seperate day for sours. In the past, they simply offered them along with everything else available over the weeked. I would assume that as the sour day becomes more popular (if it becomes more popular), it would make sense to give it its own weekend. The guys at Max's are all about making this event as popular (and lucrative) as possible, so if there's enough interest, it would only make sense for them to eventually have a seperate event or weekend for sours.

Maybe make the suggestion to Casey if you see him there this Monday?

You both make good points. I'm a huge sour fan and a lot of the guys I talk beer with are as well. I forget that the popularity with the rest of the population probably doesn't warrant giving them a weekend slot in an already extremely popular event. Giving them their own weekend, if popularity continues to rise, will give us the best of both worlds.

Maybe I should do my part and call in sick Monday so that I can go and show my support for Sour day

Well the good thing about it being on Monday is that most people are working so everything will usually be there after people get off. Also most people already take off Monday already because it is the day after Belgian Fest.

Anybody here get into the special upstairs Sunday event?
