    Hola Mid South-Atlanticers!

Traveling to NoVa Weds night for business, leaving Friday afternoon, staying at the Westin in Reston. It's not my first trip to the area (it's like my 5th) but I've only been to Norm's in Vienna (which I love), and then I always hit State Line in Elkton, MD on the drive back north.

But I'd like to check out a new store or 2. Any recommendations that are right smack in the Reston/Tysons Corner/McLean area? Also, what are my chances of picking up simple 6ers of Nugget Nectar or HopSlam? Anything else notable hit the area recently that I should be able to find?

    Thank you one & all!

The Wine Cabinet in Reston is a small bottle shop similar to Norm's that could be worth a trip. I would recommend hitting up Total Wine Sterling (not far from Reston) as they typically have the best selection/largest quantity of beer. Hop Slam hasn't been seen yet due to some shipping delays from MI, but word is that it could be hitting sometime this week. Not sure on the status of Nugget Nectar; for all I know it could be at TW right now (haven't been beer shopping in a couple weeks).

I think I've been to wine cabinet once. Nice shop. SUPER pricey if I recall. The Sterling reco is good, I have a meeting in Sterling midday Thursday. Is Total Wine or Whole Foods typically better in NoVa?

It depends on what you are looking for. WF Reston is the smallest WF in the NoVA area. However, the WF Fair Lakes is the biggest and should be decently close to you.

Wine Cabinet is a bit pricy (but not bad for the area), and the people there are great. Definitely make a stop in there!

Mostly just VA distro shelf stuff that I can't get in NJ/NY. I'd really love to find some Devils Backbone stuff - is that easy? Hardywood Reserve stuff would be great too but I've never seen that on shelves during previous visits.

Yeah, you'll find all the DB stuff at WF Fair Lakes. Ask for Lee.

There was some of the reserve stuff floating around recently. Not sure how much is still out there though.

Give Arrowine in Arlington a call about Hardywood, I was there on Friday and saw the Sidamo Coffee so they may have stuff. Devil's Backbone should be easy to find at Wholefoods.

Yeah, Devil's Backbone you can get at Whole Foods Reston. The Hardywood Sidamo Coffee Stout may still be at Sterling TW (probably not though). I know it's not at Whole Foods Fairlakes. I'm 99% sure it's gone from The Wine Cabinet. Best to call ahead.

Sidamo is still floating around, I've still got some. The barrel aged version should hit this week. Nugget Nectar hits the distributor later this week and should be out there next week.

The Whole Foods in Springfield is the smallest in NoVa.. Beer selection is fair at best. They need to step up their game. Tired of going in there and seeing the same old stuff week in and week out. Better to hit up TW in Springfield or make the trek out to Fairfax WF.

So Whole Foods Fair Lakes = WF Fairfax?

Thanks again for the heads-up on the BA Sidamo! They got 2 cases in, no limits, $15 per. I bought 4 and there were 6 left on the shelf but I think they still had the whole 2nd case left.

There is also a total wine right near whole foods in fairfax. They generally have a better selection than Sterling but also tend to sell the specialty stuff quicker.

Kevin does a good job over there. The only WF that really rotates through a ton of new stuff is Fair Lakes, because Lee has the room out there.

The smallest NoVA WF is Reston. I really don't think they could make it any smaller

My major problem with Springfield is I haven't been able to score a limited release beer there in a long time. I have a feeling they are held for "preferred" customers. It's not in an area that I would expect the truck chasers to hit since it is out of the way. Any time I ask questions about these types of beers I get very vague answers. I kind of get a bad vibe from the beer buyer in general. It is the closest store to my house and I have been buying beer there since 1999 when they were called Fresh Fields so it kind of sucks. I rarely buy beer there anymore because of this.
