What would it take to land one of these nowadays? I acquired one about a year ago for Sexual Chocolate, Cafe Royale, Parabola, and Event Horizon. Has its trade value skyrocketed since then? I'm sure there are far less bottles still around, obviously. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Honestly I don't know if I'd try to trade for it at this point. I've had it and regular Huna, and I may be the only person that thinks that the Cali Brandy barrel aging didn't add much to the base beer. Plus, the time aging in the barrel probably didn't do much favors for the adjuncts in the base Hunahpu...

You aren't. Several of us tried it in October at Crooked Stave's invitational and all were pretty lukewarm on it. AB Huna is one thing, CA brandy is quite another.

How did i know you'd have something to say on this thread? Seriously, what is your deal?

If a person has opinions that run amok of your home state's brewery, they have a deal? I'm praising a beer from that same brewery in my comment. I don't have a problem with CCB in the slightest; traders that try to oversell the rarity of certain CCB offerings, that's another story, but not germane to this post and my comment had nothing to do with that.

Man, you dump on so many threads involving CCB. A lot of what you say comes from ignorance, and you certainly come off like a dick. Everyone knows Florida traders suck and overrate beers and underestimate bottle count and the like. But jesus christ, give it a rest man.

I for one agree with him after having Cali Hunahpu. It was good but not much different from reg Hunahpu. Beyond that, who cares if he's dumping on CCB, its his opinion, and he's certainly not the one coming off poorly in this thread.

No, there are a few others. We are outmatched. I was warned before I got a bottle that it was not worth getting it, and when I was drinking it, I wish it was a reg Huna.

    Just my 2 cents

People opinions are just their own personal view. I am a fan of most CCB, but our tasting group thought cali brandy huna was not very good when we had it. IMHO the first run of El Catador was not very good as a whole. The 2nd round looks much improved. There is a ton of stuff from CCB that I love, and i wish we got more of it up here.

on another note I can say that Matthewplus is a great florida trader, and one who i hope to do additional future trades with.

I would say it is going to be fairly difficult to land at this point. Lots more wants than gots, limited pool of people able to get it, relatively low bottle count, & it's about nine months old so a lot of bottles have been consumed.

Plus, despite a few opinions above (which you're certainly entitled to!) it's highly rated even by inflated standards:

And, though again you're entitled to your opinions, I've found Florida traders to be some of the coolest, most generous folks I've run across in years of beer trading...base Hunahpu's isn't hard to trade for. And if regular Huna was released in (redacted) or (redacted), you'd never be able to trade for it without access to Cantillon one-offs from 1984.

I am glad that he is a good trader....

I traded a Prop to get one a few months back. So I did not have to trade much to get it. It just seems to me that this one bottle didn't live up. I can't imagine how good Apple Brandy is; and I am going to have DB Hunah this weekend. From the sound of it, I will enjoy it. Objectivity here on beer.

CCB and Prairie are my two favorite breweries at the moment so I don't hate on CCB at all. This bottle just seemed like a miss

CCB adds the Hunahpu's treatment to the base Marshall Zhukov's AFTER it is removed from the barrels.

    Bump.

Are there many of these bottles out there? 4 Roses Mexican Cake? Fou Foune? BCBVS? Bramble? Wineification? Would any of these go 1:1? I haven't seen too many recent trades involving Cali Brandy Huna and am unsure of what type of beer it trades for.

probably not too many. i have one, but i don't know too many others in my circle of friends that have it. good luck on your ISO man!

btw, fwiw... i had some a couple months ago, and loved it. barrel was there (but not overly strong) and the flavors were still great. but as always, palates vary.

it's trading "worth" is all relative. i'm not really looking to trade it, so it would take a lot to move me off of mine. i don't know if others are in the same boat or not.

i know that's not particularly helpful, but any beers worth is going to vary from one person to another, ya know? only you guys can make that call on how much you want to give up for one.

@jeevo I just traded a cali brandy straight up for a crowler of BA Ten Fidy. No clue of it's actual trade value, but I wanted BA Ten Fidy. Hope that helps

Our tasting group was underwhelmed with the Cali Brandy. I loved the DBH but I liked the regular even more. For whatever reason the spices are so muted in the DBH & the Cali Brandy Huna. DBH is an incredible ba beer but it doesn't -imo- provide that unique 'Huna' experience. Cali Brandy -jmo- didn't provide the 'Huna' experience & didn't strike me as an especially noteworthy brew.
