OK, so I decided to satisfy my own curiosity and made the 50/50 Resin and Hi-Res blend. It tasted more or less exactly as I thought it would. Less sweet than Hi-Res, more powerful than Resin. It was pretty damn good!

My wife and I christened it, BI-RES. To symbolize the two versions of, "Res," contained in our glasses.

Just tried my first Six Point Hi-Res. 11.1% ABV and 111 IBU's. An outstanding ale. Nice head with resin aroma, but it is the balance that excels. The initial taste is a very smooth, almost like a fine bourbon. It has a nice bitter finish that is just right. It is not over-the-top, even at 111 IBU's. The bitterness is stiff, but utterly pleasurable. This may be a Top 10 beer for me. I went to Crafted Drafts looking for Bell's HopSlam, but they were sold out, so the owner put me on Hi-Res. Great recommendation!

Has my first can last night and actually found it to be extremely "hot". The only IPA I can recall that is hotter than Hi-Res is Devil Dancer. That said, it was still a well made IPA that I enjoyed.

Didn't get that big sweetness that everyone else is talking about. Maybe I will have different thoughts from cans #2-4.

Cheers to Six Point for pushing the boundaries!

We're getting reports of everything from $9.99 up to $14.99 - so as usual there is a huge discrepancy at retail

Nice! I normally drink your brews unmolested. But, I love Resin and Hi-Res both so much that my curiosity was insatiable. Had to give it a go.

Hope you guys enjoy the BI-RES as much as we did!

Likewise. Saw it at the store, picked up a 4 pack and had one last night. Notice I said just one. couldn't taste the alcohol, but my body felt it after I drank one. Delicious, and not at all bitter considering its 111 ibu. very sweet and fruity.

@Sixpoint I noticed there is a best by date on the bottom of the can, but what length of time is, for example, Hi res given after bottling? a 3 month period? 5 month?

I would love to be part of something like this... It really needs to be done more often. I feel that people often forget how awesome a good clean balanced beer is.

This product will "expire" 180 days after the packaging date. That being said, let's provide a little insight on how these "code dates" actually work. We've tested all of our beers, ran many experiments on the aging of our products and how different beers hold up over time, including Resin, and determined how long it will last in the can after packaging. Some starting results:

    1) We tasted the Resin 30, 90, 180, 270, and 365 days after packaging. In all instances the beer held up with noticeable hop flavor and even adequate hop aroma after 1+ year IF it was held at 55F or below.

    2) We then tasted the Resin 30, 90, 180, 270, and 365 days after packaging WITHOUT keeping it at cellar temperatures or below. Although the beer held up fine (no infection, no stability issues) it simply did not have sufficient vibrancy of flavor after about 190-200 days from packaging.

    3) Here is the best part of our follow up experiment: beer actually loses its "freshness" within just a week of packaging! After that it maintains a "baseline" for flavor ONLY IF its kept at proper storage temperatures. Otherwise, if you have beer that had been sitting out on a shelf for months on end, it most likely has an irreparably impaired flavor because the heat will accelerate its demise.

The bottom line is that cold, consistent temperatures slow down the aging process. This is evident across nature - when you are working in a laboratory, if you want to increase the reproductive rate of bacteria, you raise the temperature. Nearly all chemical processes during decomposition, including cell growth and oxidation of organic compounds, are accelerated (sometimes exponentially) by a rise in temperature.

Want to keep beer fresh? Keep it cold.

Want super fresh beer? Drink it within a week from packaging. :-)

    cheers

Thanks for the reply. Best Before July 11 was on the bottom of my can, so its been about 3-4 weeks after packaging. Tasted amazing, but that was my first one, so can't compare to a week old bottle.
