People having uninfected bottles =/= no infected bottles.

    I believe you missed sarcasm.

However, I still believe that people's replies about their bottles add value to the discussion.

    ughhh. I may have.
absolutely the more replies that come in saying infection or not would help to give an idea as to whether this is an isolated bottle or a small fraction of them, or if this is like the '09 Abyss situation where its a flip of the coin.

Had all six recently with no problems. In fact, Czar Jack was the favorite of the night, followed by Twisted Jim.

Poor storage conditions wouldn't cause a beer to go sour. It may accelerate infection, but wouldn't be the cause of it.

Appears this isn't a batch wide issue, though given the rarity of the beer I wonder how many people have actually opened it recently. I have a really hard time believing that the bottle I drank was the only infected bottle, but I suppose stranger things have happened.

Yeah, certainly seems odd. In the context of homebrew, there is possibility of one bottle being infected because of inadequate sanitation but I would assume that all these bottles were brand new.

While it doesn't mean they are all infected, it does mean drink it now.

mirror mirror has a similar issue, there were some incidents, but for the most part it sounds like most are infection free. it has to be some type of contamination at bottling right. im not too familair with town hall but they dont do too much bottling correct? maybe there was a kink?

either way it sucks that you guys got an infected bottle espeially something like this one!

considering how easy it is to sanitize bottles, it seems unlikely to be so isolated... then again, it's clear that the whole batch wasn't infected (even if yours was stored warm or something, the bacteria / wild yeast aren't going to wait that long to make their presence known in the other bottles).

@the post you're responding to, infection cannot occur due to storage conditions, unless someone opens up the beer and injects some bacteria in it.

re: mirror mirror as KevSal mentioned, i wonder about that. again, it seems really unlikely that pros like deschutes would fail to sanitize bottles (and bottle infection is 100% based on sanitation practices, while preventing infections in porous wood barrels is still supposedly risky even with best practices). i'm guessing since their barrel aging is so large scale, they don't blend every barrel together, and just a few of them had whatever made mirror mirror bad. (incidentally, the 09 mirror mirror i had was not infected, and i have another on the way from a very generous BA, and supposedly the rest of his case(s) hasn't shown any signs of infection).

Drinking a bottle right now. Not infected and totally delicious.

For what it's worth the Wee Jack we opened a little while ago was super Granny Smith. (Drain-pour, unfortunately…)

Say what you will about BMC, but infection issues are not one of them.

Arbitrator opened a bottle about a week ago and it was also infected. I'm posting on his behalf because he's temporarily banned from posting (lol).

To be fair, they don't do a whole lot of barrel-aged beers.

    Goose Island doesn't count

I had a bottle of wee jack the definitely had some problems. Very thin body, no barrel taste, and a definite diacytal buttery taste

As stated by others in this post, one bad bottle does not a bad batch make. I get the impression based on this thread that town hall makes some amazing beer, but had quality control issues when it comes to bottling. I think my bottle was an exception to the batch anyway - when I cracked the wax there was a hiss of gas, before I even touched the cap. Thia gives me the impression something went wrong with that bottle.

    1) I'm back.
    2) Yes, mine was infected, though not unbearably so. I also opened two bottles of Abyss '09 which had varying degrees of infection. The Czar Jack seemed to have progressed less along those lines, with a pronounced metallicity, a thin (for an RIS) body, and mild tartness. I've never had the beer before, but I imagine that's not what it's supposed to taste like.
    3) I'm going to hunt down the people that "liked" your post.
