Right, the "charity" benifitting the owner of those bars. I thought that was against ABC laws, not that it matters to you or me really.

3pm on a Saturday...No PtY for you my friend. However, when I was there last PtY release, I've seen people going through the back door just to buy growler fills and some bottles but no PtY.

God bless R.R., because they have created an amazing hype and demand, but to me the hype around the beer isnt worth it. Its so trendy and hip to get all excited out here (Nor-Cal) for the Younger that it becomes more of a status symbol and bragging point to say you have had it. For me no beer is worth an 8 hour wait for A glass of beer. And to me Pliny is the most over rated beer out there, not saying its bad by any means, but its cool to like Pliny. R.R. makes a lot of beers better than Pliny in my opinion. It feels like the excitement is manufactured.

Blind Lady in San Diego does a legit charity fund-raiser around PtY. You buy a ticket, get a glass of PtE and PtY, and I think you get raffle tickets for a chance to buy any extra PtY. You are guaranteed your Pliny & the money is guaranteed to go to charity.

Probably the difference is actually going to charity.

    .25 liter PtE
    .25 liter PtY

$15. All profits go to charity. So yeah, I would assume they recoup the cost of the beer pretty quickly though. Profits from all leftover PtY sales go to charity as well. One of the better deals as far as ticketed Pliny events. Not sure if they'll do it again this year yet.

Quite the opposite actually. This is not the only beer in the nation that gets this kind of attention at release. Lately it seems like hating on Pliny or down playing its great taste is the thing do since you know, "Heady is always the best".

PtE & PtY are great examples of DIPA (IIIPA?) beers that get a lot of hype, but their quality deserves for them both be mentioned among all IPA lovers.

Don't pay attention to the hype and just like it for what it is, another get beer.

Just go to Stone - they should get their fair share since they will be handling distributing in SoCal

No bottles, not even growlers. Draft only at the brewery and a few select bars in the Bay Area, Southern CA, Philadelphia, and maybe a couple other lucky spots.

Monk's Cafe does a Pliny the Younger event. I've never been but plan on making the trip to Philly this year.

I'm still considering it; I don't know if I'll be able to get the time off, and their website says that they plan on tapping the keg on a Monday. That's harder to pull off than a Friday, but not impossible. Still strongly considering it; it would be fun!

It's at the very end of Airport Road. So I guess the north side of 80. If you go up 80 East, take the Bell exit, it's the quickest way there without taking a gazillion stoplights.
The taproom is nothing to get overly excited about, but the beer is!

Now that it's officially been released, hopefully we'll get more news as to distribution in Philly. I am signed up to all Twitter feeds from last year's bars that had it :grinning:

How fast does this stuff completely disappear? I'm coming to SF the second week in March. Do I have any hope of finding PtY anywhere by that date?
