Now that you have established your maximum 6-pack price for pale ale multiple times, maybe you can drop it and let this thread focus on the actual topic?

I'm always skeptical when a business decides to step outside of their core competency. I realize brewing and distilling both involve creating fermented beverages, so it's not like they are branching into car manufacturing, but it's still a strange choice to move into spirits rather than reinvesting in brewing. With their level of demand, they certainly have the capability to expand brewing operations.

Multiple people have mentioned Indiana's unique brewing laws. Maybe those represent a cap on their brewing capability and so spirits is the best way they see to expand.

Ha ha ha...... Never ever come to Indiana to buy beer. We get greased up and they aim for penetration here.

Example: FFF sixer of Alpha King is 10.99 but a four pack of Osiris pale ale from Sun King is 11.99. 10.99 for a four pack of cream ale, and their newest 5.4% porter is 12.99 a four pack. 17.50 for a two pack of "limited release" beer. We've got a place that is selling $20 bottles of barrel aged amber this weekend.

A sixer of Two Hearted is 11.99 everywhere in this town, even Smuttynose beers are 11.99 here. Indiana is the most expensive place outside of NYC I have ever seen. I tend to stock up out of state because I will save at least $2-3 bucks a sixer for the same beer.

Our local beer is the most expensive game in town. That has less to do with the Breweries and more to do with our liquor stores. I want to support those guys, but mainly I only support on draft now because I've been priced out of the market for local packaged beer.

Simply based on liquor store prices FFF is the least greedy (and best tasting) of any Indiana brewery.

Say what now? Three Floyds "re-entered" Ohio in late 2011 and we got the first shipment of Zombie Dust back in late 2012, so how is this testing the market?

This. It's like they do it on purpose because they think their beer is so good they can do whatever the f they want with the label. I have news for you FFF...your beer is good, but not good enough to justify a sloppy label. As soon as you increase distribution this will hurt sales. Mark my word.

I trust they realize this though and will pour some money into some up to date label technology.

I'm kinda baffled people care about the quality of the label. I presonally don't give a rat's ass. (full disclosure: I have passed up buying some beers I've never had before because the label art was atrocious - but it's rare).

To counter that argument, I know several home brewers that bottle and like that they have shitty labels that come off really easily.

I don't know the entire financial history of three floyds (I remember they were soliciting funds from locals to invest in the brewpub when it started) but isn't this some sort of milestone? They are using their own funds to expand at their own pace. Not that it's wrong when Dogfish head goes to get bank loans to expand, but is there any merit to this path? Or does it not matter because people want their beers to be available all the time, and want them to be cheaper than they are? I know Three Floyds isn't the only brewery growing this way, and I wonder how people feel about that whole issue.

I think people will still buy FFF regardless if their label is peeling off or crocked. I personally don't care about the label but the contents inside.

You can do the same argument because their wax dipped bottles are not as thick with wax as the used to be, but people still line up to buy it.

I sure love how easy the FFF labels come off for bottling my homebrew... I am just burdened with the task of drinking 2+ cases to cover my 6 gallon batches!

So $5 per 500ml of PTE = altruism and $10 per six pack of ZD = greed? Got it!

I'm not slick, just good at basic math. Your argument for RR was their price vs demand for PTE. A similar conclusion could be made for FFF's most popular and in demand beer...ZD.

    Fact is ZD 6.5 % (apa/ipa) is a better value at $10 per 6er than PTE 8% ipa/dipa at $5 per 500ml.

FFF brewery only barrel aged beers are very expensive but I'm guessing those sales represent less than 1% of their annual revenue.

The ingredient difference was factored into the ABV 6.5 vs 8.0. Citra hops are also in great demand and thus not cheap.

Permanent funeral is $10 per bomber and 10.5% ABV which is similar to FFF's other DIPA's both in price and ABV.

RR and FFF are 2 of my favorite breweries and I've been to both SD and No-Cal on beer-cations and agree the pale/Ipa scene is great but I can't use RR as a pricing example to disparage FFF.
