Is this a beer desert or is there a decent establishment which might poor a quality brew? Just looking for a suggestion or two, a place that I can escape the convention madness and partake in a quality IPA, Stout or local goodness. Will be there this weekend though mid week, no car, so within walking distance. I've heard about Freetail, but it looks like its out of my zone. Anyone badly in need of a bottle or two of New Glarus, I might tote a couple to trade, IP of course....need to know by end of work day today! Thanks in advance.

Probably not exactly what your looking for, but Ocho has amazing food and a mildly decent beer selection... They usually carry 6-8 bottles of solid craft beer... Nothing on draft, though. It's worth a trip for the food alone. Also, far away from all the "touristy" riverwalk madness...

    Luke isn't bad.

Friendly Spot - good beer selection, but many find them less than Friendly

Blue Star Brewery - not very good

The Granary - decent beer and some guest taps.

Friendly Spot = not friendly and expensive. But beer.

I highly recommend The Filling Station and Stella Public House around the Downtown area for great craft selections.

Agreed, though they do have a pretty ridiculous selection most of the time. Just be prepared to drop some coin, especially for anything rare... I would certainly take a cab to Freetail, maybe even shoot them an email offering to trade something for something out of an employees cellar...

You could consider megabus if you have a day and want to go to Austin on the cheap, you will be close to their pickup I think.

Agreed. Luke is worth a visit as well. Aside from that, you may get lucky and find Karbach or St. Arnold on tap at one of the chain restaurants on the riverwalk. Personally, I'd recommend taking a little extra time to check out the other places mentioned. Luke and Filling Station would both be an easy walk. You could probably take a cab to Stella without breaking the bank.

Fantastic input, thanks so much. Looks like some great eateries too, might even pull a client or two for some entertaining to one of these places. Definitely plenty of options to find a good brew.

The Esquire Tavern off the Riverwalk has a decent selection. I usually go there and they have Live Oak and 512 On draft. Check their website for the updated selection.

The blue box is near the grainery, I remember them having a few things on tap but more so for good cocktails up stairs. I recall my friend taking me to a couple of cool cocktail bars near the river walk as well, seemed like a cool scene when it would tough to find good beer. I know there was an amazing pastry shop we went to and a Vietnamese or Korean gastro pub I think?

Waxy O'Conners on the Riverwalk has a good number of taps. I brew for Busted Sandal Brewing and I did an account visit there last night for the first time. Nice place. They carry our Slippery Rock IPA. Luke (a John Besh restaurant) is a great spot to grab some food and eat at the bar. They probably have about 8 taps there including our El Robusto Porter. I like Friendly Spot when the weather is nice. They have a ton of taps. Tuk Tuk is Asian street food which is fantastic. If you hit up the Tuk Tuk area during the day, you can walk to the Granary and Blue Box.

If you go the other way from downtown, you can go to Filling Station, walk to Friendly Spot and then walk to Blue Star (a little further but more than manageable).

Update: huffed it to friendly place, not at all busy so service not an issue. But 19 for two beers? Whoa, I get it! Had a Sculpin and an Avery Dugana, wow proud if their billing!

OK, now On the river walk having a steak and a Slippery Rock IPA, it's real good and waiting for my Ribeye

    Cheers!
